Current Happenings::
Please encourage your children to read!One of our committee members, is starting up our yearly reading project again! Keep track of their reading and when they get to 20 books, turn the names of the books into me .I will give them a 20 book certificate. After your child earns 5 certificates they will exchange those certificates for a 100 book certificate and will recieve a new book! Even if your child isnt able to read, you can read with them! We really want to encourage reading with the girls! Thanks Leilani for turning in your first 20 books! Way to go girl!!!

Community Service Information One One of our main service projects is the Color a Smile and the Make A Child Smile projects. We need our girls to color pictures for "shut ins" and sick children. For the Color a Smile, they want one sided pictures with first names only. For the Make A Child Smile its way more lenient.Our last service project this year in both the Daisy and Brownie Troops is still the Project Linus blankets. Their website is sclinus@sc.rr.com if you want to check them out. I want to make 3 Troop blankets. 2 with the Daisys and 1 with Brownies. We have so many Daisys that we need to make more than one. I have asked Allison Meadows to head this project for us.If you have any questions or contacts for material please let her know.

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Another year is here! Our parents letter went out today for the month of October. We have 3 meetings this month. During these meetings we will be cooking, investing, learning and having fun! What a month!
 Holidays
October brings Juliet Lowe's Birthday! This is a big holiday in Girl Scouts. Juliet's birthday is on secular Halloween, so get ready to eat sugar!!! Dress for a mess!!!!

Unit Projects
I hope everyone gets to check out our links. Girls can go to the Color a Smile or the Make a Child Smile website and follow directions to do a good turn to another person.Please turn the Color a Smile pictures into me when they are done! Girls can earn patches on their own by doing projects like these. Make a Child Smile send pictures to terminally ill kids all over the US, and Color a Smile sends colored pictures to shut ins and elderly with no family. Please take a minute to go over these websites and see if either would be a good project for your daughter. Please let me know what your child participates in so I can log their service hours on their project!
 Upcoming Events

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Update on Boo at the Zoo :: Our girls are too young to hand out candy at Boo guys, sorry! We can go as a Troop, but there would be parent costs, as we dont have that budgeted in. Let me know. We are still planning on going to the Lights in December. There should be no cost for that. I can guarantee the girls will be free. I think I can get tickets for adults also, but if not I will let you all know. There is a small cost if you want your child to ride the carousel or roast marshmellows. I know the carousel is $2 (parent rides with child for free) , and I think marshmellows are $2. There is also cocoa that I think is $2 also. The Troop does not pay for these optional items. I am looking for someone who can come in and teach sign language to the kids. Just basics, nothing fancy. I was thinking maybe the Smile Song? If anyone knows anyone proficient enough in Sign who could teach it, please let me know !!
