Troop Guidelines

There are certain responsibilities that come with being a Boy Scout. Troop 282 has established the following guidelines to ensure that each Scout has the opportunity to practice and exhibit their leadership skills:
- A Scout is a leader and, therefore, must lead by example. In order to hold an office in Troop 282, a Scout must be active in the troop. Being active is defined as attending at least 50% of all meetings and other troop activities. If, after obtaining an elected office, the Scout misses three (3) consecutive troop functions, then that Scout will be relieved of office by the Scoutmaster. Also, at any time the Scoutmaster deems it necessary to relieve that officer, he may do so for dereliction of duty.
- It is the Scout's responsibility to seek assistance from the troop leadership as needed. If any special requests or concessions are needed, it is the Scout's responsibility to inform the leadership of those needs. The Scoutmaster has final say concerning all matters pertaining to troop 282, including questions concerning troop activities, events, or advancements.
- After completing any rank requirement, it must be signed off by one of the Scoutmasters within three months. If the Scout fails in this capacity, then that requirement must be completed again. Many ranks (i.e. Star, Life, Eagle) require the Scout to hold an elected office for a certain amount of time. If the Scout loses that office prior to the time requirement, the Scout must start over in order to complete the time requirement.
- Any merit badge must be completed within nine months after it has been started. If the Scout fails to do so, then those requirements that have expired will have to be repeated. Back dating is not allowed.
