Parent Cookie Training

On January 10, Troop 2221, a Daisy/Brownie Troop, joined our troop, Troop 3285, for a cookie training meeting. Cookie training is basically a collection of all the information we need in order to sell cookies. This year, Troops 3285 and 2221 will be working together to sell cookies. We will share booths, and cookie sales will be divided between the two troops. Pre-sales for cookies start Friday, January 15, 2010 and end Sunday, January 31, 2010. We will still be taking orders for cookies after this date. Cookie Booths will begin in February 2010, so start looking for us!

Parents at the cookie Training

Everyone is ready to sell cookies

In the middle of the meeting, Girl Scout Cookies were handed out for sampling. We have the same cookies this year as we had last year, such as: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbreads, Thanks-a-Lots, Lemonades, and Daisy Go-Rounds. We are still participating in the Cookies for Soldiers program for those of you feeling charitable or dieting.

Towards the end of the meeting, the girls from Troop 2221 performed a cheer for the parents at the meeting. It was a parody of the trademark “Make New Friends” song, only this version was about cookie sales. Here are the lyrics: “Make new cookies, and throw out the old! We’re gonna stay out here until they’re all sold!” It was a wonderful performance.

After all was said and done the meeting was adjourned. The Daisys and Brownies of Troop 2221, as well as the Cadettes and Seniors of Troop 3285, went off to enjoy the frigid Sunday evening.

As a side note, Troop 3285’s newest member, Felicity, will be taking part in cookie sales this year for the first time. We would like to welcome her to our troop and wish her luck for her cookie sales!

Equestrians Events

On November 6th and 7th, 2009, we set up a concession stand once again at USC Equestrian Event in Blythewood. We will be hosting additional concession stands on January 30, 2010, February 6, 2010 and February 13, 2010. Please come out and support USC Equestrian Team and our Girl Scouts.

Our purpose for being at these events is to raise money for our trip to Hawaii in 2011, which will be a ten day trip and will cost approximately $10,000. We have currently raised $343.63 through these events. The events are free to the public.

At our concession we sell the staple items, like Debbie Cakes, sodas, hot dogs, chips, candies and cupcakes. We also sold hot homemade soups, like corn chowder, potato soup and organic chicken noodle, which were all kindly donated by volunteers in our troop. The soups were great for the nippy weather for those days, though thankfully it warmed up in time to sell some delicious BBQ sandwiches which were donated by JB Grill in Irmo.

After the event, we were given the opportunity to meet and greet the USC Equestrian Team and had our picture taken with them. You can learn more about the USC Equestrian Team on our page, “Meet the USC Equestrian Team”. They signed a poster for us, as well. It was really nice to meet the team.

We would like to thank all of our contributors for their enormous help in this project. The list of contributors consist of:

Business Contributors: Bi-lo,WalMart,Sonic,Wendy’s,Kroger,Burger King,Dollar General,Double B ,JB Grill,Sam’s Club,Piggly Wiggly

Individual Contributors: Deanna Amma,Karen Meadows,Emily Turner,Laura Hansen,Russ Groth,Tim Jeffcoat

Without our wonderful contributors we could not have made our concession stand possible. Thanks for Supporting Girl Scouts.

USC Equestrian Team and Troop 3285

November 8
On November 8, 2009 wemet for our regular meeting. We started the meeting with the Girl Scout Promise as we always do. After that we discussed the postcard exchange, we will be exchanging postcards with approximately 32 troops from around the world. The purpose of the postcard exchange is to show other troops around the world how we do Girl Scouts in our troop and see how other troops scout around the world.

After discussing the postcard exchange we signed Thank you notes for our contributors for the USC Equestrian Event. Which you can read about in a previous article.

After signing all the Thank you cards for our generous contributors, we talked about the assignments that were do for this meeting. We had to create a list of ten careers in the field of oceanography and determine how water affects various ocean related disasters such as hurricanes, tsunamis and cyclones. These projects were for our "Sea to Shore Badge", we all did very well on our projects.

The remainder of the meeting we needle pointed the border of our patches that we designed for the "Fashion Design Badge". Then we were dismissed to enjoy the rest of our Sunday evening.
