2009-2010 Meetings NEW YEAR MEETING It's a new year! A Girl Scout year, that is. The new Girl Scout year started August 30th. We had our first parent/girl meeting on August 30th as well. It was held at Edenwood pool. ![]() The agenda

To start, we did the Girl Scout Promise. Then, Mrs. Brie announced who all the leaders would be this year. Mrs. Brie is the Troop Leader, Mrs. Deanna and Ms. Allison are the Assistant Leaders, Mrs. Jana is the Cookie Mom, and Mrs. Noelle is stepping down from Cookie Mom and is just a mom now. ![]() Announcing Mrs. Jana as the Cookie Mom
After that, we talked about the badges, patches and charms we would be working on this year. We are working on the Shore To Sea badge, Fashion Design, Mirror to Mirror charm, and Plant Life. Some of us will also be working on our Silver Award. When we finished talking about that, we talked about important dates, such as the Father/Daughter dance and the Christmas party, as well as many community service projects. We also talked about fundraiser and cookie dates. ![]() Explaining the On-Time Event
After we got done with all of that, we sang happy birthday to the ones who had a birthday in August; Victorie, Mrs. Jana, and Ms. Allison. After we shared cupcakes, we brought the meeting to a close. Some of us stayed after the meeting to swim. We would like to thank Edenwood pool for letting us use their facility for our meeting. We all hope and believe this will be a great Girl Scout year! ![]() Ms. Allison

On Saturday, August 29, the girls from Troop 3285 had a CPR course. CPR is short for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Throughout the course, the girls watched several videos about CPR and First Aid. They learned how to temporarily treat burns, shock, stroke, flesh wounds, and other conditions until an ambulance arrives at the scene. After watching the videos, the girls took a test about the course and the information it provided. Overall, the girls passed the test! They also practiced mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a mannequin. First, check the scene to make sure it’s okay to approach. Then, after you are sure that the scene is safe, ask the victim if they are okay and if they want your help. If they don’t respond, call 911 and begin CPR. Start by listening and watching for breathing. ![]() Listening for breathing If they’re not breathing after 5-10 seconds, pinch their nose and tilt their head all the way back to open the airway. ![]() Mouth-to-Mouth

Ms. Brie started the meeting with some discussion about several upcoming events. Fall Product Sales begin on Friday, September 18th, and there is to be a Father/Daughter Dance which will commence on December 4th. Also, to start the year, the girls will begin working on a Fashion Design Badge. They will learn how to design clothing and will attend a fashion showcase later in the year. After the announcements and discussions were over, the girls took a review test on their CPR class which took place at a previous meeting. It was required of the girls to score an 85 or higher on the quiz, and overall the girls passed! ![]() Ms. Deanna giving the CPR test to the girls

After going over the test the girls proceeded to do some tie-dyeing. It was definitely a mess of a good time! Tie-dyes will be unveiled at the next meeting, so we all have to be patient to see our “masterpieces”. After tie-dyeing the girls cleaned up and went about their Sunday evening. ![]() Tie-dyeing

On October 11th, the girls of Troop 3285 held a meeting. They worked on their cross stitch designs for their Fashion Design badge as well as the poster for the USC Equestrian Event Concession Stand. Troop 3285 has been invited to run the concession stands at the event. The money they raise will go towards a troop-wide trip to Hawaii in 2011. The girls will also be participating in the event in 2010 so they have two years to raise money. They will also be having several other fundraisers during the two years, and their goal is to raise $10,000. It was a wonderful meeting overall! ![]() Working on the USC Equestrian Event Concession Stand Poster
