Welcome to the Upper South Carolina Basketmakers Guild. updated August 29, 2017

The purpose of our Guild shall be to promote the art and tradition of basketry through instruction, public service, and community awareness. Members shall fulfill the guild’s purpose by participation in regularly scheduled meetings; conferences, workshops, conventions, gatherings, etc; local, regional, and national art and craft shows, exhibits, demonstrations, etc.

Our meetings are at Lutheran Church of Our Savior at 2600 Wade Hampton Blvd. (Hwy 29), Taylors, SC 29615. (The church is located between the Red Lobster on N. Pleasantburg and the Wade Hampton Plaza Shopping Center. Turn onto Cherokee Dr.)

    The Lakelands Basketry Guild will meet the 4th Tuesday of each month (except for December 12) - see schedule below. We will meet at the Silverstreet Community Center, Hwy 34 between Newberry and Chappells. It is next door to the fire station. We will meet at 10:00 in the morning.

  • The Lakelands Guild will again participate in the Empty Bowls project in Greenwood on Oct. 12. Each member will make a bread/muffin basket to donate to this event. The minutes for the August meeting are posted Lakelands August Meeting, 2017

    During 2017, our meetings will be guided by Guild members. Members will pick a month and decide on the project. It could be a kit we order from a supplier or a kit designed by the member. The first 6 months of 2017 are listed below: Jan. 24 - Party Time from Suzanne Moore, NC Basketworks. We already sent our money to Sis or ordered the kit ourselves. If you did not order a kit but would like to join us, then please go to the NC Basketworks site to order your kit.

  • Feb. 28 - Dolores von Rosen - Bring a kit to swap, sell (full or reduced price) or make. Incorporate natural materials (vines, yarn, re-cycled material, etc.) into your basket.
  • March 28 - Gourd with Debbie Wilson - Sign up by Feb. 3 if you would like to participate.
  • April 28 - Scottie Jeffreys and Corn-E-Lia from Marilyn Wald's XYZ Basketworks. Order form is in the December, 2016 minutes. Deadline is the Jan. 24 meeting.
  • May 23 - Joyce Crain -Large Shopper
  • June 27 - Bean Pot Basket with Bonnie based on Lyn Siler's book, The Ultimate Basket book, pg. 49. Read the May, 2017 minutes.

  • Pati English continues to teach at her studio. Check out her website to find other places she will be teaching.
  • Marianne Barnes and Debbie Wilson will be teaching at the Cherokee Gourd Festival and the Mountain Festival. Just Google the festivals to find classes and information. These are really fun to attend.
