Welcome!!
The Upper South Carolina Basketmakers Guild welcomes you to this website. We are an organization dedicated to the teaching and sharing of basketmaking ideas and skills. Our guild meets the 1st Thursday of every month at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior at 6:30 pm. The church is located down from Red Lobster on the way to Taylors at 2600 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville, SC 29615.The picture shows students at the Sept. 12 workshop of the Lakelands Guild in Chappells as they make Jane Wilson's Small Appalachian Basket. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEWSLETTER: 1. Change to "3 members at large" so that all areas of the upstate can be represented. 2. Change to "meetings will be held on 1st Thursday or at a date determined by the Board." Hopefully we can have a few Saturday meetings.
On Nov. 14, the Guild had a very successful workshop with over 30 weavers attending. Over $400 was raised for our "goody liners". Thanks to all who participated. Marianne has completed her book on Weaving on a Gourd. We should be able to get a copy in the fall or 2010. Sandy Roback contributed to this project. We can't wait to see and learn. To record our work throughout the year, members are asked to fill out the volunteer, donation form. If you have donated your time, supplies, help, or baskets to help a cause, to teach children, to promote the guild, please take a minute to fill out the form. Here is the latest Lashin' News for January, 2010. download Lashin' News, Jan. 2010 2010 Lakelands Basketry Guild Projects: Next year the Guild will use Lynn Siler's Basket Book as a guide to our monthly projects. Lynn's first book (The Basket Book) is out of print; her other book (The Ultimate Basket Book) contains the baskets from the first book plus additional projects. Either book will suffice for next year's projects. The Ultimate Basket Book can be ordered from NC Basketworks or from Amazon. Used copies of the first book, The Basic Book, are also available at Amazon. LAKELANDS HAS ALSO CHOSEN TO HAVE CLASSES ON SATURDAY. MEMBERS WILL NOW HAVE TIME TO MAKE A COMPLETE BASKET. NOTE: THE 11 PEOPLE LISTED IN THE MINUTES HAVE AGREED TO PURCHASE KITS FOR THESE BASKETS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOP AND NEED A KIT, PLEASE CONTACT THE INSTRUCTORS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

NEW LINK AT LEFT!! Marianne Barnes and Pati English - along with other artists/teachers - have founded an online gourd college. Visit the link to the left (www.gourdcollegeonline.com). As a student, you have one-on-one access with the teacher, a chat room to help you create your basket or gourd, and a timeline that fits your schedule. What a unique way to work with gourds and baskets!!!

If you are looking for a special pattern, a particular basket supply, post your request here. If you have some patterns, reed, supplies you would like to swap or sell, post your information here. Remember that we will not violate copyright rules - so make sure you have permission to share or sell a pattern. Requests will be posted when received. If you are interested in a wide selection of beads, etc., contact Mamye.
