The Upper South Carolina Basketmakers Guild welcomes you to this website. We are an organization dedicated to the teaching and sharing of basketmaking ideas and skills. Our guild meets the 1st Thursday of every month at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior at 6:30 pm. The church is located down from Red Lobster on the way to Taylors at 2600 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville, SC 29615.

The picture shows members of the guild at Jeri Pool's house making Christmas ornaments.

RAFFLE ITEMS: Maxine Riley, Frances Owens, and Imogene Williams are collecting basket related items for the Weave-In. They already have great donations but are looking for more. Team up with a friend to make a basket and then fill it with goodies.

Goody Bucket - We have colorful blue, lime, yellow buckets to fill with our Wall-Recipe Basket. We are also including "basket hints" and recipe cards. Please come to the Holiday Inn on June 5 to help assemble the buckers.

Recipe/Wall Basket - WOW!!! We put together 100 recipe/wall baskets on Apri 3rd - thanks to all who helped.

May 7th - At our May 7th meeting, members are asked to make a Christmas ornament or raffle basket for the Weave-In. For the Christmas ornament, some suggestions will be made in the newsletter. You can also go online and do a search for a free Christmas pattern. Another suggestion - use the small market basket pattern we made with the built in handle in small 11/64 red, green and natural reed..

New from Laura Lee Zanger

Basket weaver and teacher Laura Lee Zanger has written and published her first novel Spirit Voice. It is a fictional story of Native American life from the mountains of North Carolina to the coast of South Carolina in Pre-colonial America. It is told by an old Cherokee basket weaver as she recalls her past, beginning with her abduction by a group of strangers when she is four years old. As the Girl of Four Summers she develops a lifelong relationship with her Spirit Voice who guides her through life, the good and the bad. She learns about her world as she travels from the mountains to the ocean along the Great River of the Uchee, Sawanugi and Savannah Peoples. She lives for a while with the Cusabo People of the coast. A family secret is revealed to her when she is a young woman, triggering events that change her life forever. This story is full of family and tribal dynamics as it is woven around historical facts. It is a journey through time for the reader to follow the long life of Old Woman as she experiences hardship, joy, love, and learning. This is the first of four books that follow the lives of the old basket weaver’s family. Future books include They Came, Broken, and Reconciliation. For more information contact Laura Lee at dreamweaversent@aol.com

FRIDAY WEAVING!!!Kristen Monastyrski has graciously volunteered her home on Fridays for weaving and friendship. Contact Kristen at monast@bellsouth.net for directions and times.
