Welcome to the Upper South Carolina Basketmakers Guild. updated Nov. 28

The purpose of our Guild shall be to promote the art and tradition of basketry through instruction, public service, and community awareness. Members shall fulfill the guild’s purpose by participation in regularly scheduled meetings; conferences, workshops, conventions, gatherings, etc; local, regional, and national art and craft shows, exhibits, demonstrations, etc.

Our meetings are at Lutheran Church of Our Savior at 2600 Wade Hampton Blvd. (Hwy 29), Taylors, SC 29615. (The church is located between the Red Lobster on N. Pleasantburg and the Wade Hampton Plaza Shopping Center. Turn onto Cherokee Dr.)

Congratulations to Marianne Barnes who had two of her gourds juried into the SC State Fair. Thanks to Marianne for teaching the guild weaving on a gourd. The information re: the Palmetto Gourd Patch is listed below - not in the links section.

The picture shows the rocks that were woven by the Lakelands Guild on June 25 - what fun!!!

Our November 3 meeting will consist of two Christmas ornaments - a Christmas ornament basket and a variation of the Carolina Snowflake. Time is 9 am to 1 pm (or sooner).

Our Weave In was a success. Thanks to all who attended, our volunteers, teachers, vendors, etc. If you have not contacted Embassy Suites to tell them how much you enjoyed the venue, please take a minute and let them know.     The Lakelands Basketry Guild will meet the 4th Tuesday or 4th Saturday for the rest of 2016 - see schedule below. Starting on Dec. 13, 2106, we will meet at the Silverstreet Community Center, Hwy 34 between Newberry and Chappells. It is next door to the fire station. We will meet at 10:00 in the morning.

    Read the July minutes for the program for August and September. We will be making a herb basket. We will put together the base in August and weave it in September. Make sure you contact Bonnie if you are interested in doing this basket.

    For the 1st four months of 2016, our programs are listed below:

  • March 22 we will make a round reed basket with Dolores. Cost $12.
  • Braid weave with Julie Honchar. Weave with leather on a gourd - cost $20. Sign up by April 15.
