About Us Vision Leadership Institute (VLI), a grass-roots organization, was founded in 2000 to address the need for capable women leaders within each community. VLI targets the ¡§at-risk¡¨ population. VLI was founded on the principle of empowerment and gives young women the opportunity to develop and strengthen a commitment not to choose drugs, violence, and high-risk sexual behavior by providing a safe and accessible women¡¦s resource center. The Institute promotes positive peer pressure to work for change. Through a creative and collaborative partnership with a diverse base, the Institute provides the following programs: Health and Wellness Program Academic/Tutoring Program Mentorship Program Vocational Program Leadership Program Community Service/Volunteer Program Life Skills Program Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention Program

Photovoice
In 2003, Vision Leadership Institute (VLI) provided “Photovoice” to Gonzalez Gardens, an at-risk community. “Photovoice” focused on young women who were economically, psychologically, and socially challenged. ”Photovoice” was created in China by Carolina Wang to provide migrant farm women with a “voice” though the use of photography”. It was adapted to address the social ills experienced by the young women at Gonzalez Gardens. “Photovoice has three goals. It enables people to record and reflect their community’s strength and problems. Finally, it engages policymakers. It follows the premise that, as Caroline C. Wang explains, “What experts think is important may not match what people at the grassroots think is important” (Photovoice, 2004). At the conclusion of “Photovoice”, the young women were given the opportunity to address policymakers and their photographs were exhibited at the Public Library to immerse the community in their world and through their eyes. Although there is a plethora of information and resources for HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and prevention, it is difficult to deliver it effectively to at-risk populations. Peer Leaders and staff members will be utilized in a two-pronged approach to deliver services, referrals, and address quality of care issues. First, Peer Leaders will receive training in “Photovoice” and HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness, education, presentation, and skills to facilitate workshops with women under the age of twenty-four. Second, the staff members will focus their service efforts to work with women under the age of twenty-five by providing an initial thirty-minute referral to appropriate services and service. Service gaps generally exist because of language (lingo) and cultural barriers can be reduced or eradicated. Peer Leaders in each community will be identified and trained to teach their peers to communicate effectively and take control of their lives and their futures.
 Model Mentorship Program
These columns operate in tandem because of the way HTML tables work.

If you want your entire Home Page to be in text that goes across the whole page (no 1/2-column sections), just turn off the two tandem sections and put all your material into the full-page sections, separating text with headings. Use your HTML coding for paragraph breaks and font size and color changes. Or you can do your entire page in two columns by turning off all your full-page sections and using only your tandem sections.

Notice that we have turned off the second 1/2-column section below this one so you can see what it looks like to turn a section off.

Program Goals of the Model Mentorship Program
