St John in the Wilderness Chapel

Welcome to the homepage of "St. John in the Wilderness Chapel." Wilderness Chapel is a simple church in Cayce, SC. We are located in the historic area of Cayce in Guinyard Gardens just a quick walk from the Cayce-West Columbia Riverwalk along the Congaree River between Cayce and the State Capitol of Columbia SC. We meet at 701 Oakland Avenue ( "O" Avenue) in Cayce in a circa 1937 log building. We are glad that you stopped by!

About Us

We are an ordinary people serving an extraordinary God. Our goal is to "be the Church" not just to "do Church." Some time we meet from house to house, at local parks, convalescent centers, down town,on prayer walks... wherever the Lord calls us.

We fellowship together. We worship the Lord together in music and in song. We study the word of God and we pray for one another. We observe the Holy Eucharist. Provide prayer for healing with anointing with oil and minister in the gifts of the Holy Spirit as He leads. We worship the One Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Holy Spirit leads today just as He led Our Lord Jesus Christ,Galatians 5:16 "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." Luke 4:1 "Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness."

We preach and teach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a worshipping Spirit-filled fellowship. We are an apostolic, prophetic, healing Church. We are a simple church of the Lutheran Evangelical Protestant Church under the General Conference of Evangelical Protestant Churches, Inc. We welcome you to join us any time. Dress is casual. Our services are worshipful and uplifting. We are friendly and would enjoy your company.

Why Wilderness Chapel?

That the glory of the Lord might be revealed.

"Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, a good distance from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And it came about, that everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp." -- Exodus 33:7

"A voice is calling, 'Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.'"

"Let every valley be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; and let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley."

"Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken" (Isaiah 40:3-5).
