![]() All Iyatonka Chapter Arrowmen are invited to the chapter’s annual winter retreat weekend at Camp Iyataka the weekend of February 13th - 15th. Fun, fellowship, and good food for all chapter Arrowmen who attend. This annual weekend is a great way for new Arrowmen to get to know the other members of the chapter. We also use this opportunity to get some of the chapter’s business done, such as planning upcoming events and activities. On Saturday, the chapter helps with the Cub Scout Polar Day. When Cub Polar Day is over, we out the chapter's rowboat(the Snow Nymph)and ride it down the sledding hill.
Everyone's invited to bring sleds, inner tubes and whatever will go downhill. Details are still being worked out, so check back for more information. Be sure to put this weekend on your calendar!
We are asking all Troops in the North Star District to name a youth O.A. representative. This is a leadership position which can fulfill the leadership requirement for Star, Life, and Eagle. Scoutmasters, please send us the name & contact information for your O.A. representative. An Order of the Arrow Troop/Team Representative is a youth liaison serving between the local OA lodge or chapter and his unit. In his unit, he serves as a communication and programmatic link to the Arrowman and adult leaders and Scouts or Venturers who are not presently members of the Order. He does this in a fashion that strengthens the mission of the chapter and lodge, and purpose of the Order. By setting a good example, he enhances the image of the Order as a service arm to his unit. ![]() JULY 26 - AUGUST 4, 2010
Interested Scouts from the Sioux Council will have the opportunity to attend a National Scout Jamboree, July 26 - August 4, 2010, at Fort A.P. Hill, Caroline County, Virginia.
Every four years, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America organizes the ultimate Boy Scout experience, the National Jamboree!
The 2010 Jamboree will mark the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America and will be the experience of a lifetime for both the adult leaders and the youth participants.
It's an experience of a lifetime and one you won't want to miss. Imagine ten days of fun and activities - all day long - every day - plus some spectacular arena shows with great entertainment, and an opportunity to tour some of our country's historic past. Activities include: rifle shooting, scuba diving, fishing, trapshooting, canoe slalom, rappelling towers, pioneering, kayaking, a huge merit badge midway, daily stage shows, and much, much more!
SCOUT QUALIFICATIONS: Boy Scout and Varsity Scouts must be at least First Class Scouts. They must have completed the sixth grade or be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2010, but not have reached their 18th birthday by August 5, 2010. All Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts must participate in a pre-jamboree training experience; file a complete Personal Health and Medical Record prior to the pre-jamboree training; have been active in a troop or team for at least six months prior to July 1, 2010; and be approved by the unit leader and the Sioux Council.
LIMITED SEATS: The Sioux Council’s Jamboree Troop will consist of 36 Scouts and 4 adult Scouters.
COST: For the 2005 Jamboree, the fee was $1,850. Currently, a 5% inflation increase is projected for the 2010 Jamboree at this time, which would put the fee at around $2,300. Every effort will be made to bring this fee in as low a price as possible, while preserving the quality of the Jamboree. This will cover the National Jamboree fee, travel and tour expenses, meals, lodging, unit and patrol equipment, accident and sickness insurance, troop number patches, patrol medallions, and the cost of the pre-jamboree training.
PRE-JAMBOREE TRAINING: Sioux Council Jamboree contingent participants will meet as members of the troop a couple times before attending the Jamboree. One of these times is a weekend campout to give the Scouts experience working together as patrols and a troop. It's very important that the Scouts commit to attend each of these meetings, as vital information will be given out at these times. The dates of these meetings will be announced by the fall of 2009.
TRANSPORTATION, FOOD & EQUIPMENT: The Sioux Council’s Jamboree troop will tour Washington, DC, and surrounding historic sites in addition to the Jamboree itself. The troop will fly to Washington, DC, stay in a motel, and eat at various locations in the Washington, DC area before traveling to the Jamboree for 10 days of fun and excitement. The food costs, plus patrol and troop equipment are included in the Jamboree fee. Personal equipment and two complete Scout uniforms are the responsibility of each of the individual Scouts.
RESERVE YOUR SPACE: To reserve your slot on the Sioux Council's 2010 National Jamboree contingent fill out and mail in the form on the Sioux Council 2010 Jamboree Brochure.
QUESTIONS: If you have any questions, please contact Sioux Council Jamboree Chairman, Todd Garry or staff adviser Jim Thalacker, or call the Sioux Council Center for Scouting at (605) 361-2697.
Check the Sioux Council website regularly for more information about the Council's National Jamboree contingent.
