McCrossan Boys Ranch Named December 2010 Volunteers of the Month
The HELP!Line Center congratulates the young men of McCrossan Boys Ranch on being named, as a team, the December 2010 Volunteer of the Month award winners. This is an area-wide award program sponsored by MetaBank. These youth were nominated by the Moving Assistance Program for this award. The Moving Assistance Program provides assistance to individuals or families who, financially, cannot afford to physically move to a better or safer living condition.

The McCrossan Boys Ranch has been helping the Moving Assistance Program since 2008, but their increased efforts since July 2010 have truly been outstanding. While most teens are still in bed on a Saturday morning, and won’t see the light of day until noon, these young men are up early, making a positive impact on their community. The McCrossan boys are literally the Moving Assistance Program’s best work horses when it comes to moving. They come prepared to haul any kind of personal possession, be it boxes, couches, tables, chairs, beds, entertainment centers, or anything else. The boys are always upbeat and positive, and their speed, plus agility, sets record times for completing moves. This includes loading up an entire household, packing it into a trailer, transporting the packed items to a new location, and unloading it all within two hours. Many professional movers can’t move that fast! The Board of Directors for the Moving Assistance Program says that when the boys arrive at a move, you can feel their energy and willingness to help. The boys genuinely seem to enjoy helping others, and are never afraid to interact with the people they are helping. The level of empathy they show to the people being moved gives them a maturity far beyond their years. From the Moving Assistance Program point of view, these young men are one of the best groups that volunteer for the program.

The HELP! Line Center and MetaBank congratulate the young men from McCrossan Boys Ranch who give their time to the Moving Assistance Program on receiving this award, and presented them with a framed certificate, plus a letter of appreciation from Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether, recently. They will also be celebrated at the annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards in 2011.
