Welcome Woihanble Yuwita Habitat for Humanity
Pine Ridge Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat International, a non profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent affordable housing. The houses are then sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charge.
Volunteers provide most of the labor; individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of 'sweat equity'-into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
About Pine Ridge South Dakota
We are striving hard to build decent affordable housing on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Our name,"Woihanble Yuwita" translates to building dreams in Lakota language. The challenges here on the Pine Ridge Reservation are many. Presently we are confronted with a severe housing crisis:
*Approximately 1700 families are on the waiting list for subsidized housing
*The average persons per households is estimated at 4.36
*Persons Below Poverty 52.3%

Our community supports Habitat's mission. Multi-generational households are common. Multi-bedroom homes are needed on the reservation with an estimate cost of $35,000 to $40,000.
