Status Report New Briceville Library Building Project Status Report as of August 14, 2008 Steps Completed With the active involvement of the Director of the Clinch-Powell Regional Library and following the guidelines from the Tennessee State Library and Archives, we have developed a needs assessment and a program plan giving the types of services and facilities required for the structure and library We have secured a strongly worded resolution of support from the Anderson County Commission. Contacted state and national legislators and received positive replys. We have developed site requirements and have identified several potential sites for the new Library. .The best location found is an approximate acre of land on the Briceville Elementary School campus, with the advantage that it is already publicly owned. We are exploring this with the Director of Anderson County Schools. We have contacted the Anderson County Buildings and Codes Department to learn of zoning, lot size, and building regulations. Likewise we have obtained and reviewed Tennessee State Library and Archives requirements for new library buildings and met with the coordinator of new library building construction. We have obtained the services of an architectural design firm who has developed a conceptual design that meets the requirements for the library. The estimated cost is $360,000, with additional costs for furniture, furnishings and materials. We have obtained the interest and support of Briceville community leaders and others individuals and organizations who are actively participating in the project. We have held an open house in Briceville to highlight the condition of the present library and to encourage interest and excitement in a new library. We have a possibility of securing a state matching grant. We have involved the Anderson County Director of Buildings and Grants in the grant seeking process. We have established a separate budget category for placing contributions and have several hundred dollars in it already before we even started fund raising. We hope to obtain the approval of the Anderson County School Board to transfer a parcel of Briceville Elementary School land to the Library Board. NEXT STEP ƒ¿ We are in the process of developing the PowerPoint and other presentation and solicitation materials. ƒ¿ We are developing a funding plan and have identified many individuals, organizations, foundations and businesses that will be approached to contribute funds, materials, supplies, or in-kind services. ƒ¿ We are beginning to evaluate building structure alternatives. ƒ¿ We are beginning to solicit opportunities to give presentations to civic organizations and potential supporters. ƒ¿ Continue to develop the needs assessment and program plan and begin working on the interior design requirements and specifications. |
