Below are some photos of our Tent happenings. We try to have a speaker at each meeting. Topics are varied having included re-enactors, writers, battle descriptions, diaries, and quilts of Civil War era materials/patterns and many more. One talk on what the 'common soldier' did in camp - shelter, food, entertainment - led the quilter to make a blanket designed by the Sanitary Commission for women to make for the soldiers. The soldiers were issued blankets that soon wore out, so the quilts came into being - makes you really understand what our ancestors lived with.
We try to also have refreshments at every meeting. Not only are they tasty, but it gives us a chance to talk informally and get to know each other better. Among delicious 'modern' goodies, we have sampled hardtack and Grant's favorite rice pudding. Below is a picture of some of our members enjoying 'Abraham Lincoln's favorite cake' with his wife's frosting on it - as printed in a recent GO.
