*-*-*-* April 4, 1968 Reflections *-*-*-*
1968 was a year of tremendous change. It was a year of Excitement (graduating), Courage (the two Olympic athletes who took a stand for civil rights), and Tragedy (the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.). With this week being the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's death, please take a few minutes to share and reflect back to that day on April 4, 1968.
Below are four of Dr. Kings top aides that were with him that evening. They each share and reflect on that moment.
(Time Magazine - April 7th, 2008 issue)
1. Rev. Billy Kyle:
I thought I was having a nightmare. Forty years ago, I had no words to express my feelings. Forty years later, I still have no words to express how I felt.
2. Rev. Jesse Jackson:
The police were coming toward us with their guns drawn. We were saying "it came from that way! You should be running with the guns toward where the bullet came from!"
3. Andrew Young:
When he came out, he didn't have a top coat, and I said, "It's cool. You better go back and get your top coat." And he was saying "Do I really need a coat?"
And then the shot rang out.
4. Rev. James Bevel:
I got this friend named Bernard LaFayette, and Bernard would always do tricks. So my first impression was that Bernard had shot a firecracker. But it was like, Martin doesn't play like that.

Inspiration/Humor:
"Seat Warmers"
Sam and Ruth from Maine had just bought a new car when winter hit with all its fury. "I wonder if the car has seat warmers," Ruth wondered.
"It sure does," said Sam, looking through the owner's manual.
"Here it is..........rear defrosters."
"He who sits on a Red-Hot stove shall rise again."
- Rev. W.A. Suggs
"Life is like riding a bicycle; you don't fall off unless you stop pedaling."
