Minutes of the August 15th., 2008 Meeting

President Jerry Davenport opened the meeting with 41 members present. Jay Cochran gave the invocation followed by Rich Holton leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Betty Quast is in Florida due to the passing of her sister, so until Betty returns Kermit Hurley will be taking reservations and answering questions about the cruise.

The Club may have to cancel it’s Field Flags Project because there is no space to place all the flags. Mike Ferry is trying to locate a space that someone might let us use.

Oct. 2nd is the date for the Book of Golden Deeds dinner. This years recipient will be Jay Sweeney. It has been decided to announce the winner prior to that night as much info must be gathered and lots of preparation in order to properly honor Jay.

If you have any good donations for the United Fund auction call Jerry Davenport and things will be picked up. The club is donating a golf cart and also a check for $500, to be presented on Sept.26 at the dinner to be held at Fortes at 6:00.

Les and Judi Elam gave a glowing report on the phone book, once again due to the sales force the goal of $30,000 was exceeded by $600. A big thank you to Jan and Larry Robertson for such a beautiful cover. The sales team members were acknowledged and folders given to them with business cards and forms for next year!! Thanks Elam’s for all you hard work!!!

Jerry also announced that Virg English will take over as the chairman for One Nation Under God breakfast in November. Rex Rainey was scheduled to run this event, but Rex is recovering from a stroke.

Ken Deadmon led us in God Bless America and the meeting was adjourned.
