Minutes of Last Meeting ![]() LAKE TANSI EXCHANGE CLUB REGULAR MEETINGMinutes of the January 6th., 2012 Meeting
President Joyce Ferry opened the meeting at 8:00, Ken Deadmon gave the invocation and Frank Gale led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our program for today was given by Gus Gocella and it was all about the Honor Air group. This organization is in 27 states and it transports veterans from World War II and Korea to Washington DC to tour the war memorials. There is no cost to the veterans for this trip, it is all paid from money that Honor Air receives as donations from corporations and individuals. Everything that the veterans may need is provided, for example they travel with 60 wheelchairs and oxygen and other necessities. So far there have been 11 flights, at the cost of $60,000 a flight. They have taken 1254 veterans on these trips. Gus himself is an escort and he has to pay his own way each time, and feels this is a privilege. We got to watch a very moving film showing their trip from departure to when they return. It was very easy to see why this is such a moving experience for these men and their escorts. The next flight will be in April and it is completely filled. Applications for Oct. flight may be obtained from Gus, and he will also take any donations you might want to make. Frank Gale gave a report on the golf tournament coming up in May. This year we will go to a one day event Jan.17, There will be a meeting at the POA office at 9:00 for anyone willing to help on this event. Betty Quast has only 2 cabins available for the cruise, but there are no longer any seats available on the bus. Also volunteers are needed to help put luggage in the Hiawatha the night before departure, and drivers are needed to pick up Tansi residents...please let Joyce know if you can help.
Respectfully Submitted,
