The 81st Annual Tennessee Exchange Club Convention was held at Montgomery Bell State Park, Burns, Tennessee May 30 thru June 1, 2008. Those attending from Lake Tansi Exchange Club were Jerry & Sheila Davenport, Roger & Betty Quast, Ed & Betty Spicer and Mike & Joyce Ferry.
The 1st session began on Friday with an address by Todd Foster, Director of the Exchange Club Family Center, Nashville, Tennessee. He gave an overview of child abuse prevention work in Tennessee. Ken Warner, Exchange national Foundation President, updated members on the Foundation.
The One Nations under God Breakfast was held Saturday morning. The speaker was Pamela Johnson, Belmont University. She spoke on the upcoming presidential debate to be held October 7, 2008 at Belmont University. At lunch, the 2007/2008 Youth of the Year winner, Marco Oroczo and the ACE Award winner, Miranda Patterson read their winning essays.
After Saturday dinner, awards were presented by Tennessee District President, Nancy Britt. Lake Tansi Exchange Club was presented the Growth Award and the Scrapbook Award. The winner of the Outstanding Tennessee District Director was Joyce Ferry, Lake Tansi Exchange Club. After awards, there was the installation of the 2008/2009 officers/directors by Margie Miller, Region 10 VP, Charleston, South Carolina.
The convention was very informative, enjoyable and held at beautiful Montgomery Bell State Park. Subject to availability, next years convention will be at Fall Creek Falls State Park, Pikeville, Tennessee.
