![]() 82nd ANNUAL TENNESSEE DISTRICT EXCHANGE CONVENTION
JUNE 5 – JUNE 7, 2009
The 82nd Annual Tennessee Exchange Club Convention was held at SW Tennessee Community College June 5 thru June 7, 2009. Those attending were Ed & Betty Spicer and Mike & Joyce Ferry.The 1st session was held Friday with an address by Barbara King, Director of Exchange Club Family Center, Memphis, TN. She gave an overview of child abuse prevention work in their area. A young lady who was in their teen mother’s program talked about the support she had received from the center. Phil Howard, NEC Foundation Trustee, gave an update on the foundation work. The One Nation Under God Breakfast was held Saturday morning. The speaker was Jim Brown from the Frayser Exchange Club. Jim is a retired Sgt. Major with the Marine Corp. He spoke on the American Flag and our military service men & women. He had 2 Marine’s fold the flag and gave us the meaning of each fold. It was very impressive. Anne Marie Logue, NEC Regional Vice President gave us an update on National Exchange and the NEC Foundation. At the National Convention in July, 2009, there will be a possible $3.00 National dues increase and a reducing/combination of Regions. This was followed by a Memorial Service for deceased members in the Tennessee District. A candle was carried by Betty Spicer for Gene Broughton and Mike Ferry carried for Roger Quast. At lunch, the 2008/09 Youth of Year and the ACE winners were recognized. The Youth of Year was Sean Perron, sponsored by Donelson-Hermitage Exchange and the ACE of year was Je’Vour Taylor sponsored by Bedford County Exchange. The Saturday afternoon session had 2 training sessions, Officer Training “Where We Are Now” and computer training “A Whole New World – Cyber Space”. After Saturday dinner, awards were presented by Awards Chairman, Chris Ramey. Lake Tansi Exchange Club was presented awards for “Stand up America Campaign”, +1 in growth and the Scrapbook Award for large club. After awards, installation of the 2009/20019 officers and directors was conducted by Anne Marie Logue, NEC Regional Vice President. The convention was informative & enjoyable. The 2010 Tennessee District Convention will be at Fall Creek Falls, Pikeville, TN. Joyce Ferry
