Lowenstein House has four work units in which members can participate. They are:

  • Food Services
  • Environmental
  • Clerical/Word Processing
  • Support Activities

The Food Service Unit teaches members about basic operations in a restaurant or other food service establishment. Members learn about meal planning and preparation, food handling, food storage and sanitation. They prepare meals for the agency as well as special events.

The Environmental Unit members learn about basic house and grounds maintenance. They learn skills such as floor care, basic cleaning, plumbing, painting and landscaping.

The Clerical and Word Processing Unit members learn skills which can be used in an office or clerical setting. They learn typing, filing and how to use office machines. Also they can develop skills in basic computers, word processing and desktop publishing.

The Support Activities Unit provides many support services to the agency. The members in unit assist with member outreach, tours of the facility and the maintenance of forms used by the agency. They publish a bi-monthly newsletter, maintain the agency bulletin board and plan recreational activities.
