PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE
Who, What, Why?

Parliamentary procedure defines how a democratic organization works - how its members make decisions, how its leaders run the organization to meet the needs of its members, and the rights of members and non-members.

Countless organizations use parliamentary procedure every day. Who are they?

Government & Civic Organizations -- The U.S. Congress, state legislatures, city/county governments, school boards, neighborhood and homeowners' associations.

Corporations - Boards of Directors, shareholder meetings

Non-profit organizations - Charitable organizations, fraternal organizations, churchs, clubs, unions and professional organizations

Have you ever felt that you should have been more vocal at a meeting but were afraid you might make a mistake? A basic background in parliamentary procedure will give you the knowledge and confidence to know when and how to voice your opinions and concerns.

How, Where and When Can I Learn About the Rules Contined in RONR? Attend a monthly meeting of the Delta Unit TAP. Areas that we can help with are:

  • Shortcuts to productive meetings
  • The correct motions to use
  • How to preside effectively
  • Rights and responsibilities of members.
  • Rules of debate
  •
    Roberts Rules of Order

Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (often abbreviated RONR) is the most widely used parliamentary authority in the United States, incorporating solutions for countless meeting situations.

Roberts Rules of Order is the official parliamentary authority of the National Association of Partliamentarians, the Tennessee Association of Parliamentarians and the Delta Unit.
