Norris Community Library

The Norris Community Library is located in the old McNeeley Family Clinic Building located across the street from the Norris Middle School. The Norris Museum is located to the left of the library entrance.

Before Norris was officially a town, on April 10, 1934, TVA opened a library which was located in the Old Community Building. The new library boasted a collection of 4,500 books.

In 1936, the library was moved to the Norris High School (now the Norris Middle School). The Norris High School had a library so our community was blessed with one library for the community and one library for the students. Mrs. James Goulden became the first librarian for the Community Library and held that position until 1954. The library remained in the Norris High School until 1954.

In 1954, the library was moved back to the Community Building. 57 members of the community volunteered their time and services to facilitate this move and, on September 15, 1954, the library was reopened to the public.

Mrs. Betty Anne Jolly served as librarian from 1960 until 1982. In 1978, the Community Building burned. The library lost 3,500 books due to the fire. After the fire, the library was housed in a trailer until 1983 while a new Community Building was being erected.

In December of 1994, Misty Yeager assumed the role of Library Director for the library. Mrs. Yeager relocated the library to its current location. By making ths move, the library was greatly expanded in size. The improvements to the library would not have been possible without the foresight of the City Council or the generosity of the residents of Norris and the surrounding communities. The newly relocated library was officially christened the Betty Anne Jolly Norris Community Library in 1999.
