Chapter Pledge

The ladies of the TNTs Red Hat Society Chapter, with all the Royal Hattitude within, do solemnly pledge on their red/pink hats to uphold the TNT spirit of the Tennessee Tootsies and the Red Hat Society. We will greet and embrace middle age with love and laughter knowing that silliness is the comedy relief of life. We promise never to refer to ourselves, or other Red Hatters, as old women but as mature angels that have learned to spread their wings and spit with hattitude! We promise to greet our Sister TNTs with a hug and a “smooches-swish." We promise to always come dressed in our red/pink hats and purple/lavender outfits and as many Red Hat accessories as we can find places to put! We do promise to be faithful to silliness and shenanigans whenever and wherever possible. We will join our Red Hat and Pink Hat sisters going for the FUN and GUSTO of life together. We will share in the bonding of friendship; show a genuine enthusiasm for life, dining, and shopping; and will always practice having fun. This we pledge in the spirit of the Red Hat Society and with a Red Hat Tennessee Tootsies Hattitude.

WARNING!! MYSTERIOUS OUTBREAK OF "RED HATTER POX" ON THE RISE

Very contagious to female adults - Especially those over the age of 50. Be aware of the following symptoms:

1. Victims become glassy eyed when "hats," "boas," and "red," "pink," "lavender," or "purple" are mentioned.

2. Victims mumble in a strange language understood only by other afflicted females.

3. Victims tend to gather together in groups calling themselves "Chapters."

4. Victims hang out in strange places and frequent antique shops, hat shops, tea rooms, gift shops, and any place red and purple items are sold.

5. Victims have been known to break out in giggles, hearty laughter, songs, and kazoo playing without warning.

6. Victims may be identified by red hats, purple clothes, pink hats, lavender clothes, bold and flashy jewelry, and occasionally by red wax lips and the blowing of bubbles.

7. Victims feverishly check stores and web sites for the latest "red hat glamour and glitz."

IMPORTANT NOTE: These ladies may become violent when restrained from doing any of the above.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENT

1. Give money in large doses.

2. Allow full freedom to attend clandestine gatherings with other victims.

3. DO NOT believe anything the patient says!!!! Examples include but not limited to:

"What mall? I have not been to a mall!!!"
"I swear this is my last hat."
"No, that wasn't my purchase on the charge card."
"What new dress????"
"The UPS driver just left this package here for the next door neighbor."

The Red Hatters Ode To Bubbles

"Bubbles Bubbles Bubbles"

An angel sitting on my shoulder
Told me not to fret about getting older.
“Blow bubbles and watch them rise
Let go of your woes, if you are wise.”

A bubble can make you giggle
If you watch it’s rainbow wiggle.
A bubble can make you grin
Being playful is not a sin.

A bubble can make you smile
Become a kid again for awhile.
As Queen Qum, I’ve made a royal decree,
“Let’s blow bubbles to set our ‘inner child’ free."

I give you a magic wand to use.
Play a fanfare on your kazoos.
Dip your wand into the magic potion
Let yourself free with great emotion.

Bangles & beads we use with a flare
Add bubbles anytime, anywhere.
People already stare at our purple & red
Now we add bubbles floating around our head.

Inhale, get ready, let the laughter out.
Exhale and watch your bubbles float about.
Listen to the angel under your bright red hat
Having fun with Red Hatters is where it’s at.

"Ode to the Red Hat Society"
by Sue Ellen Cooper

A poet put it very well. She said when she was older, She wouldn't be so meek and mild. She threatened to get bolder. She'd put a red hat on her head, and purple on her shoulder. She'd make her life a warmer place, her golden years much golder.

We read that poem, all of us, and grasped what she is saying. We do not need to sit and knit, although we all are graying. We think about what we can do. Our plans we have been laying. Instead of working all the time, we'll be out somewhere playing.

We take her colors to our hearts, and then we all go shopping
For purples clothes and hats of red, with giant brims a-flopping.
We're tired of working all the time, and staying home and mopping.
We order pies and chocolate fudge, and rich desserts with topping.

We crown ourselves as duchesses and countesses and queens. We prove that playing dress-up isn't just for Halloween. We drape ourselves in jewels, feathers, boas, and sateen. We see ourselves on television and in magazines.

We laugh, we cry, we hug a lot. We keep each other strong. When one of us goes out for fun, the rest all go along. We gad about, we lunch and munch, in one big happy throng. We've found the place where we fit in, the place we all belong.

The above poem and the following statement copied from the Red Hat Society Website: "We do own the rights to this poem, and we share it with our members freely. The "Ode to the Red Hat Society" may not be used on product for sale or in the promotion of product for sale except by express written permission from the Red Hat Society."

Favorite Red Hatter Songs
The "Rowdy Red Hatters Song"

We all know the tune "Red Red Robin" - right? Well, the following "Rowdy Red Hatters Song" is sung to that tune. There will be a test!

"When the Red, Red Hatters
go gad-gad-gadding along, along!
With our purple dresses, and stylish tresses, we sing this song!

Red Hats, Red Hats We're Haughty ones,
Red Hats, Red Hats We're Bawdy ones,
Red Hats, Red Hats We're Naughty ones,
Don't you mess with us Buster!

Red Hat Ladies go gad-gad-gadding about, about!

And there's no denying, We're all relying on Charm and Clout!

We'll show the world how no one can stop us now, Merry with Glee,

To be Glad Red Hatters and Mad Red Hatters are we!"
Lyrics by George & Aileen Fields

The Red Hatter Sunshine Song

The following song is sung to the tune of "You Are My Sunshine".

The other night, dear, as I lay dreaming,
There stood a lady in purple gown,
On her silver hair she wore a red hat
And she went out to paint up the town.

And then I dreamed all her kids came calling,
They said, "Dear Mother, please act your age!"
But when she spoke up, she sent them packing
And then she climbed right back up on the stage.

The spotlight found her like a beam of sunshine,
That grand old lady in the purple gown,
And on her silver hair, that fancy red hat
Glowed just like a princess' crown.

And so I joined her, there in the spotlight,
And how we danced across the stage.
She taught me life is good, but it is too short,
To always act your age.

So now dear sunshine, my only sunshine,
Let's be happy when skies are gray.
One never knows, dear, about tomorrow
So let's throw all our drab duds away . . .

Lyrics by Marilyn Unruh

Red Hatters "Very Good Looking, Smart Women's Motto"

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body,

But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming...
WOW, what a ride!
