************************************************************************************************** Letter from the President

Hello Ladies,

The fall season has arrived. The weather is cooling and the leaves are beginning to change their color a little. There are also many changes in store for our organization. The International President, Susan Shamali CPS/CAP has sent messages included in this issue explaining some of these changes.

One of the changes is a new name for the IMPACT meetings. The new title for these events are “Membership Recruitment Program”. The Tri-Cities Chapter is planning this event for our October Chapter meeting. We would like to encourage each of you to bring a guest to our October meeting, and introduce them to our organization. We will be having a speaker from Tennessee Division, and our local chapter to explain a little about our organization as well as a section about the Certified Professional Secretary CPS and Certified Administrative Professional Exam CAP. There have also been some changes to the recertification program that will be discussed.

Our fundraiser is getting off the ground this month. We think you will enjoy the items presented by the Ways and Means Committee this year. Please help us to continue the programs and networking opportunities for our chapter members and others by participating in this fundraiser. Thank you for your continued support of the Tri-Cities Chapter.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you at our chapter meetings.

Susan Wallace CPS/CAP
Tri-Cities Chapter President

FUNDRAISER 2009—2010

We are going to have two items this year for sale. There are a series of mini cookbooks with 150 pages of unique recipes. The key chain is hand crafted by local artist. These items would make wonderful holiday gifts. There will be samples available at our meetings for you to see the quality of these items.

We appreciate your support of our chapter.

International News

Message from Susan Shamali CPS/CAP

On Thursday morning at the Leadership Workshop, I made an announcement regarding several items that would be changing for the 2009-2010 year. I'd like to take this opportunity to provide further clarification and clear up a number of misunderstand-ings that have been communicated.

First, there will be no International Theme pin (formerly referred to as a president's pin) this year due to cost. This pin was given out to those who recruited new members. The decision to eliminate this pin was driven by our financial picture in terms of the cost of the pin as well as shipping and handling incurred in mailing it out.

Second, the Membership Growth Awards program is being reviewed as part of the overall assessment of expenses related to products and services. Again, when there are no funds available, it's difficult to offer awards to members, chapters or divisions. The Membership Growth Awards program is being addressed by the Board of Directors and we look forward to sharing with the members a program which will remain constant as we move forward.

Third, we are doing away with the IMPACT program and replacing it with a Membership Recruitment program. Does anyone really know what IMPACT means? And isn't it really a recruitment program? So, let's call it what it is . . . a Membership Re-cruitment program. The main focus, or targeted months, for the program in terms of awards is October and April. To assist chapters in marketing IAAP to prospective members, the Membership Department will be creating a PowerPoint presentation for chapters to utilize. Chapters will be able to add their individual chapter information to this presentation.

Fourth, new membership packets will be sent out electronically. An announcement will be made prior to that process starting. In the interim, packets will continue to be mailed. By providing this information electronically, members receive their information more timely and will be pushed out to the web community to create their login and password identity, allowing them access to IAAP products and services at the time their membership starts.

In this Power of Commitment year I'm reminded of a statement made by Max DuPree, "We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are."Change is constant. We deal with it on a daily basis in our work and personal lives. To be more tomorrow than we are today, we need to be adaptive in meeting the demands of today to leverage our position for tomorrow.

So, let's get it started!

Susan Shamali CPS/CAP

2009-2010 International President

Tidbits

Change Out Your Pointer Scheme

Tired of seeing your pointer as an arrow or an hourglass all the time? Windows XP offers a number of alternative pointer schemes, such as Dinosaur, Ocean and Sports.

Open the Control Panel, double-click Mouse, and select the Pointers tab. (If you start in Category view, select Appearance and Themes, then click Mouse Pointers under "See Also.") Next to Schemes, click the down arrow and select a scheme to preview its pointers. Click OK to apply the scheme to your desktop. Simple as that.

DID YOU KNOW?

Microsoft Office has a website www.microsoft.com. They offer training in Excel, Access, Word 2007, and others as well as Microsoft Updates, Templates, Trial Software, Clip Art, Learning Center, Customer Support, Visio Training, Product Information, and Free Trial Offers. Check it Out.

Microsoft Word Tips— Work Smarter, Not Harder!

To copy and paste clip art from the Web into a document - On the Clip Art and Media search results page, click on the Copy icon for the clip you want to copy. Go to your Microsoft Office Word document and decide where you want to place the clip art. Right click in the document and click Paste. In just a few simple steps, you have successfully copied and pasted clip art into your Office document.

Microsoft Word Tips— Work Smarter, Not Harder!

If you use Tables frequently, try these tips: Avoid table trouble over page breaks.:

These two tips are invaluable if you are trying to deal with a table which stretches over a page break.

If you do not want a cell in your table to run over a page break, simply adjust your cell properties. To do this, right click on the cell and choose Table Properties. Now select the Row tab and uncheck the option "Allow row to break across pages".

If you want the Header row to repeat at the top of each new page then select your Header row, right click and choose Table Properties. Select the Row tab and check the option "Repeat as Header row at the top of each page".

Two tables side by side:

To place two tables side by side in your document, follow these simple steps. First create your tables, one above the other. Then reduce the width of both tables so that the width of each one is less than half the page width. Now select both tables, click on the Columns button on your Word toolbar and select 2 Columns.

If you have read this far, THANK YOU!
