ALR NEWS FROM PRESIDENT ALBERT LOPEZ:
"Road Captain" Brandon Saenz will be having a Safety Bike Inspection at our Riders Meeting on Sat Feb 4th. Be sure to bring your DL, State Inspection and Proof of Insurance. After the meeting we will have a lunch run. I would like to thank everyone for supporting the raffle. Winners were: Polly Brady, Clock Radio; Mack Guerra, MP3 player; Mr Kinder, the cordless drill; Lisa Lopez, TV/VCR/DVD player. Coming soon...a joint raffle with the American Legion Family, with lots of prizes. Join me in welcoming the following 2011 new members to the Legion Riders Family: Randy & Charmaine Beers, Paul Argetsinger, James Patin, Larry Carlson, Michael Estep, Dany Anderson, Jay Peterson and Darrell Crews. Welcome aboard! A special THANK YOU to Billy Elkins, Club Manager/Rheagan & Paul and Richard Moreno for the hard work they do around the Post. Feb 17, 2012, the Riders will be hosting Nasty Habits, a 70's, 80's and 90's Rock & Roll/Jazz band. The dance is open to the public. Riders will be raffling off a door prize at the end of the dance. It is sure to be a FUN evening. Our March 24th BBQ Cook off & Car/Bike show is just around the corner and we are needing help on this event. You can contact Rodney Mayhew, Billy Elkins or myself. The MONEY at this event will help us all. A SPECIAL THANK YOU to all riders who participated in the funeral for Don Lester Ayers, and those who prepared the food for the bereavement dinner.

From the Vice-President Rodney Mayhew We are now forming committees to help out on the BBQ Cook off in March. Together we can all make this a successful event! A SPECIAL THANK YOU to all riders who participated in the funeral for Don Lester Ayers. The 3rd Sunday of each month at the VFW 4819 on Regan street in West, they will be serving breakfast 8-11 @ $5 per-plate to raise money to bring the Vietnam Wall to the West Fair Grounds. Please let's help out, after all most of us are veterans! You can make a cash or check donation to help bring the wall to West. For more information give us a call 254-754-8840.

Today across America many thousands of American Legion Riders get on their bikes to ride for Americanism and Children and Youth programs in virtually every state in the nation, and more are organizing each month. One of the fastest-growing and most highly visible of the many programs offered by The American Legion, The American Legion Riders are a very diverse group, and so are the programs that they support. What do American Legion Riders do? The activities are far too many to mention in this space, but here are a few examples:

  • American Legion Riders chapters and districts, nationally, have become some of the most generous donors for the American Legion's Legacy Scholarship Fund, commonly raising as much as $7,500 or more in a single donation.
  • Legion Riders participate in the annual POW/MIA Rally held each Memorial weekend in Washington D.C. known as "Rolling Thunder".
  • Legion Riders sponsor or participate in local and national charity events in support of the sponsoring American Legion Post.
  • Legion Riders ride to raise money for such organizations as local VA Hospitals, Battered Women and Children's Center, varied veterans relief organizations, Operation Wounded Warrior, Heroes to Hometown, needy families and children during the holidays and many, many others.
  • Legion Riders founded a national movement called “Patriot Guard” (www.patriotguard.org) that honors and protects the sanctity of military funerals and memorial services.
  • Legion Riders have formed special motorcycle Honor Guards and ceremonial teams highlighting the special bonds formed in military service and the motorcycling community.
  • Legion Riders have also begun to teach motorcycle and driver safety in the community and in schools in cooperation with ABATE and other national motorcycling organizations.

Remember: American Legion Riders are a very dedicated group of Legion Family members. When your Post or district sponsors a new Riders organization, you create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and growth for your post, district, and Department!
