We host monthly blanket making sessions on the third Saturday of every month (except November and December) from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at a member's home.
We also meet in our South Austin location at the same time if you ‘live south.’ That is currently at Manchaca Baptist Church, 215 FM 1626, Manchaca, TX.
Anyone wanting to help, regardless of age, is welcome. You do not need sewing, crocheting, or knitting experience. We have many tasks that can be done on an individual basis or in a group such as fabric cutting, blanket labeling, individually packaging each blanket with a little poem, etc. If you do sew, we suggest bringing your own sewing machine (if possible) along with your sewing tools. If you sew and can't bring a machine, please let us know in advance and we will bring an extra machine for you to work on.
We usually have donated fabric and yarn available for blanket making. Also, there are extra scissors, pins, cutting boards, ironing board, etc. available. Since it depends on what we receive in donations, we cannot predict what we will have available to work on, although generally we have good quantities of donated materials to pick from. Just in case, it's good if you can bring your own fabric or yarn for your blanket project. And show-and-tell is always a big part of the fun!
If you're interested in learning to crochet, Jean Bishop, our South Chapter coordinator, can give you basic stitch lessons provided you donate a blanket to Project Linus.
