I would love to hear from you (Fillies as well as other Red Hat Chapter members) on books you have read, plays you have seen, events you have attended, etc. for publication here at MEMOS AND MORE. I'm sure many of you could contribute valuable and worthwhile information.
Your webmaster, Sheila J., has been introduced to a writer named Jodi Picoult who has impressed me a great deal. She was brought to my attention by our Fillies member Judy C. who suggested I read Perfect Match. I wasn't in love with the story line which has to do with child sexual abuse, but the writing was so well done that I simply couldn't give up on the book. I found myself going back and reading sentences over and over again because they were so well crafted and original. I've noticed that her books consistently show up on the NY Times Bestselling List. I'm going to try Plain Truth next. Her latest novel is entitled The Tenth Circle. If you're looking for something satisfying to read, I would suggest giving Jodi Picoult a try.
During the past summer I discovered two novels by Khaled Hosseini - his much touted The Kite Runner and his latest A Thousand Splendid Suns . Both novels are set in Afghanistan against the backdrop of war and political events there in the last 30 years. Both have very memorable characters that stay in your mind and haunt you. The Kite Runner has currently been made into a movie and is said to be very intense. I would recommend both books because once you pick either one up you will not be able to put it down.
