The Double R Cowboy Church came about when Joe Depriest and Warren Carter had a discussion about how the Clarksville area needed a Cowboy Church to reach out to the western culture. Joe then started visiting other Cowboy Churches in and around the area and while doing so he continued to pray about it. One day Joe decided to load his horse and go on a little roping adventure with me Tracy Williams so that he could ask if I would help start a cowboy church in Clarksville. Joe and I then visited with one another and had some meetings with people from TFCC (Texas Fellowship of Cowboy Churches), BGCT (Baptist General Convention of Texas), RRBA (Red River Baptist Association), and but not least Cross Trails Cowboy Church the church who sponsors Double R Cowboy Church today. With the help from all of these outfits Joe, Warren and I set up the first meeting, which was called an interest level meeting. There joining this meeting were 18 people. This meeting consisted of how the model was set up and what RR’s mission is. This first was held on Wednesday night and we continued to meet on Wednesday night until the church grew enough that we turned it into a worship service. On May 4th we kicked off with our first Sunday morning service and had 4 men baptized, 2 youth and 2 adult. We had 175 people to join us for our first Sunday Service and had a huge potluck afterwards. We kept moving forward on Sunday mornings, Wednesday Night Youth, Children’s and Adult Bible study. We are averaging about 140 people each Sunday. God has and is really blessing Double R Cowboy Church Clarksville, Texas
