Welcome to Franklin County Arts Alliance

Rusk and Dallas Streets

Mount Vernon, Texas

The Franklin County Arts Alliance started with a dream of Jean Pamplin, in 1993, and has grown through the visions of many.
Our Old Jail Art Museum is a treasure found nowhere else in East Texas. Our Cultural Arts Center, is a budding facility with the resources for an array of cultural activities for all to enjoy. Please drop by this web site frequently for the latest Arts Alliance happenings. You'll be well rewarded with visits to our Art Museum and Cultural Arts Center.

OUR MISSION:

We are a non-profit organization of volunteers with the sole purpose
of promoting cultural awareness and education in the visual and performing arts in Franklin
County, Texas, for all ages regardless of race or ethnic persuassion. To furthur our efforts we
work closely with other community organizations in the county and the surrounding area.

CULTURAL ARTS CENTER

CAC Front Doors

Courtyard

The Cultural Arts Center (CAC) was totally remodeled in 2006, from the courtyard to the interior. New restrooms were added, electric utilities and plumbing installed, and the kitchen upgraded to be fully functional. More recently, the facility has been improved further with painted floor, ceiling, and new lighting.

Even further upgrades have been added as a direct result of the Long Range Planning meetings that were the brainchild of our Board member, Jack Cook. After several meetings, we decided that the office was to be our next project. How wonderful to have a place (air conditioned and heated!) where we could work on newsletters and other projects.
Jack and his son, JC, have been hard at work along with Betsy, to make this dream come true. You will need to come to our Annual Members Meeting in January to see the results.

This year we had focused on paying off our mortgage, and we were able to do that this November. Now we are moving on to bigger and better things, such as the office, getting the South Hall renovated into usable space for "April Arts", workshops and classes.

We have seen that we are only limted by our imaginations. With the help of our City and our Members, we should be able to take the Franklin County Arts Alliance to new places this coming year.

STUDENT ART SHOW
This past Friday, March 5th was the opening reception for FCAA's Student Art Show, featuring art form our very talented students from Mt. Vernon Schools. The reception was held at the the OJAM (Old Jail Art Museum)Friday evening from 6-8. There were more than 70 pieces exhibited, a wonderful display.

Beginning students learn the basics in this 6 day, 3 week workshop. You will go home with a completed 9x14 panel to hang. Students that already have some training will be able to hone their skills, maybe learn a new solder or glass cutting technique
Classes will be held at the CAC, 100 Rusk St. one block off Main St.

Price for this class is $75.00 with tools running about $50.00. Glass, metals and chemicals will be furnished. Please reserve your spot today so we can have the tools and supplies ordered in plenty of time for the class.

MEMBERSHIP MEETING
January 14th was the date of our 2010 Business and Membership meeting. We had approximately 52 people to attend the potluck and election of new Board Members.

Gary and Beverly Strange were re-elected to another 1 year term as co-presidents, moving Jack Cook, Linda Philhower and Marsha Romines to 1 year remaining term. Nicki Armstrong, David Solomon and Carolyn Teague have 2 years, and we added 3 new Board Members, Sherry Epperson, Linda Bolton and Barbara Norris with 3 year terms.

We want to acknowledge the out-going board members for their committment and help during their terms. Judy Lindley, Pat Oertel, who had taken the vacant spot left by Tami Worley, and Sarah Hamrick. Their dedication to helping our Association grow was invaluable. Judy Lindley was our Newsletter go to person, making sure we had a beautiful and informative newsletter to keep you posted. Now that position has been taken on by Linda Philhower.

We also had a chance to show off the new office. We are especially proud to have this new space to archive all of the pictures and history of our organization. Jack Cook has been the driving force behind getting us this wonderful space to work in. We have long needed a space to work in where we didn't have a little of this at one persons house and a little of that at someone else's. Hoepfully we will be able to acquire a computer and lazer printer so we can do our newsletter's in house from now on.

After talking it over, we had decided to dedicate this hall to Jack Cook for all of his hard work. Now the former "South Hall" is the "Jack Cook Exhibit Hall". Those of you that were not able to attend the meeting, feel free to go by in the next few weeks to see all of the changes that have taken place in our little part of the world.
We made the decision to finish the CAC this year since we were able to pay off our mortgage this past year so that we would have a nice new hall for "April Arts". We plan on the new features to be ready in time for "April Arts", this time there will be A/C or heat, whichever is needed and wonderful lighting for our artist's.

We want to be able to provide a wonderful venue for the Arts and community events, starting with Lorelle Bacon's Scratchboard Workshop this coming February and then the Stained Glass Workshop presented by Beverly Strange the first 3 weekends in March.

Come have some fun with us.
