When signing up for field trips, volunteer activities or social events please include your FULL NAME, contact information and number of adults and children attending, INCLUDING THEIR AGES. It is very important that you RSVP to ensure you are notified in the event an activity has to be rescheduled. Since the majority of our activities require we confirm the number of participants prior to the event, please abide by sign up deadlines. Volunteer projects are open to Hearts & Hugs members only.

NOVEMBER 2009
This month, we'll WELCOME HOME the soldiers who are coming into (and passing through) the DFW airport! And, what better time to participate in a "meet 'n greet" than close to Veteran's Day?!
Dress in your patriotic colors, make "Welcome Home" or "We Appreciate You" posters, and take along small flags to wave!!
Families may wish to take along treats, snacks and/or water to be given to the soldiers.
Food- Welcome treats or goodie bags are permissible (phone cards and gum work the best) Simple is the best. Please note there are approximately 200-275 soldiers arriving daily. No home baked items are allowed. Only prepackaged items will be allowed.
Water- Bottled water is a big hit as most of the soldiers are connecting to other flights and need the thirst quenchers. You do not need to take ice or coolers. Take your water and give it to Donna Cranston and she will ice it down for the next day.
If you and your family would like to participate in this event, please contact us. Deadline to sign up is November 1.
This month, we will once again be sending Christmas Cards to the elderly people in the Rockwall County County Commission on Aging Program. (Meals on Wheels and Reese Manor Assisted Living) This has been such a popular volunteer project over the last few years! Each year, we have provided over 1,000 cards to Rockwall County elderly residents! The agency said it really helps brighten the days of a lot of people!
I'm told some of these people receive very little to no mail, visitors, etc. so it is especially important that we remember them during the holiday season.
Because this project doesn't require you to leave your home, it is great for anyone...even those of you who live in the outer-lying areas!
Each participating family is asked to either make or buy Christmas Cards that will be mailed directly to the Rockwall County Commission on Aging. (in one envelope/flat rate postage) The agency will then distribute the cards with the meals!
Families are asked to mail their cards NO LATER than December 8, 2009. This will allow the staff time to sort the cards for delivery.
Please drop us an email if you and your family would like to participate in this very worthwhile project.
Let's help make this a MERRY CHRISTMAS for everyone! In addition to our annual Christmas Card mail out to the elderly, we will also be stuffing Christmas stockings to benefit children of a Dallas homeless shelter.
Watch for more details a little closer to Christmas! JANUARY 2010
Check back a little later for all the details on this very worthwhile project! We are in the process of scheduling various volunteer projects for the 2009-2010 school year. Those benefiting from the service projects will include veterans, homeless children and adults, children's orphanages, the elderly, and animal shelters. Be sure to check back often for the latest information.
