Casa Manana, Dallas Children's Theater & Dallas Symphony Orchestra On this page you will find a brief description of Casa Manana Plays, the Dallas Children's Theater events and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Homeschoolers Hearts and Hugs members will be attending several of each throughout the 2009-2010 school year. Be sure to check back a little later to get all the up to date information! When signing up for field trips, volunteer activities or social events please include your FULL NAME, contact information and number of adults and children attending, INCLUDING THEIR AGES. It is very important that you RSVP to ensure you are notified in the event an activity has to be rescheduled. Since the majority of our activities require we confirm the number of participants prior to the event, please abide by sign up deadlines. CASA MANANA PLAYS

If you're interested in attending any of the plays, please read over the information below, paying special attention to the deadlines for each. You may want to mark your calendar so you don't forget to sign up for and/or send in payment by the due date!

The Jungle Book:
This moving and unique musical, based on the classic works of Rudyard Kipling, is an extraordinary adventure that follows Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves, and his friends Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther. Together they laugh, sing and learn about the Jungle. This show is suitable for all audiences.
Payment due by Monday, September 28th.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town:
Christmas is in trouble! When the greedy toy company DeBiggy Toys International gets a judge to outlaw Santa Claus, the children are the only ones who can save Christmas. In this clever and fun-loving musical written by Joel Ferrell. A true North Texas classic! This show is suitable for all audiences.
Payment is due by Friday, November 20th.
The Alamo:
Adapted for students of all ages, this heroic, historic tale is based on the eyewitness account of Enrique Esparza, one of the children who witnessed the battle. Watch history come alive on stage as Casa Mañana presents a historically-accurate, musical portrayal of the siege of the Alamo. Combat is suggested theatrically in a manner suitable for all audiences.
Payment is due by Friday, February 5th.
Cinderella:
When Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother sends her to the Royal Ball, not even her wicked stepmother and evil stepsisters can keep her from finding true love. But when the spell is broken at midnight and Cinderella flees the castle, the Prince must scour the kingdom to find the girl of his dreams, whose foot alone will fit into the magical glass slipper. This show is suitable for all audiences.
Payment is due by Friday, March 12th.
Peter Pan:
Never grow up! Fly off to Neverland with Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell and join the Lost Boys in a magical adventure, as they battle against the evil Captain Hook and his band of pirates. Get swept away in this exhilarating, Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of the classic J.M. Barrie play. This show is suitable for all audiences.
Payment due by Friday, April 9th.
Below, are the plays for the Dallas Children’s Theater for first half of the year. The rest of the play dates will come out later in the season.
Each ticket is $7.00, provided 10 or more people participate.
All plays will begin @ 10:00 am. We will meet at the theater @ 9:30am to pass out tickets.
All tickets must be paid for by the deadline to receive the Student Matinee Rate.
DCT has two performance venues: Rosewood Center for Family Arts located at 5938 Skillman St. and El Centro College Theater 801 N. Main St. (refer to the individual production to determine the location) This information will be available on September 1 at www.dct.org.
For shows at Rosewood Center for Family Arts, the parking is free and there is plenty of it.
For shows held at El Centro College, for subscribers only, your parking is free and located at the Texas Club on Main & Lamar. Bring in your stub and show it to the box office staff to receive your validation. For schools and single ticket holders, there is plenty of parking in the area, but arrive early to find the best lots, and expect to pay anywhere from $5.00 to $8.00. It’s a busy downtown area.

Theater Policies:
General Admission Seating begins 30 minutes prior to curtain. Unclaimed Seats will be sold at curtain. Late Seating is at the discretion of the management. No food or beverages are allowed in the theater. Crying babies must be removed to the lobby. Photography, video or audio recording is strictly forbidden. Audience members are not allowed on stage or in the backstage areas. All plays, dates, times, and locations are subject to change.

DALLAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
It is time to begin thinking about the Dallas Symphony Youth Concerts for the upcoming school year!
Listed below you will find information about the three concerts, as well as dates and times. To make it easier to remember, all concerts will be on Thursday mornings at 11:30am.
The performances are held at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Concerts last about 45 minutes.
All money has to be paid upfront for the season. Admission is $6 per person (adult/children). Lap children are free. You may attend as many or as few concerts as you wish.
The deadline for payment is August 28th.
To sign up, please drop us an email and include the concert(s) you wish to attend, as well as how many participants there will be per concert. Also include your email and phone number as contact information. Remember, deadline for payment is August 28, 2009.

OCTOBER 15, 2009--FANFARE!! (for grades 3-6)--11:30 a.m.
An introduction to the brass family of instruments, featuring a repertoire of exhilarating music. Guided by Rei Hotoda and DSO principal brass players, this program explores both the differences between the various brass instruments, their inner workings, and the variety of moods and colors they can create.
FEBRUARY 4, 2010--MUSICAL FAMILIES! (for grades PreK-2)--11:30 a.m.
This fun and engaging program for younger concert-goers explores how orchestra instruments fall into distinct families based on how they produce sound. Performances trace how instruments are used in styles which are familiar to students and how these same instruments are used in the symphony orchestra.
APRIL 1, 2010--BACH TO THE FUTURE! (for grades 3-6)--11:30 a.m.
This fascinating program explores how composers throughout history, using the same instruments and the same notes, have developed music of incredibly different styles. Focus will be given to the elements of articulation, expression, rhythm and harmony, and how students can apply these elements to their own music making. |
