Reviews and Testimonials by Parents and Grandparents:

  • 7/16/15 - We got your program Tuesday and started right away. My daughter loves it. I think she has a whole new outlook on math. She will not dread having to do it next year and will not call herself stupid anymore. You are a miracle worker. I'm sure we will need the division book soon. As soon as, we finish addition, we are moving to multiplication. Thank you so much. One very happy mom! Stella R.

  • 6/20/15 - We purchased 2+2 Is Not Five and have found it to be incredibly valuable to us. It gave us helpful tools to teach our children how to calculate math problems in their heads. Justin and Carla N. (CHEC)

  • 6/19/15 - After having used one of the more popular math courses, I needed a bridge to allow my child to master his math facts. 2+2 Is Not Five was the bridge I needed. Thank you so much! Anna, Homeschool mom of four boys. (CHEC)

  • 11/25/14 - Five Times Five Is Not Ten is fun because it’s easy. I don’t usually need help, and it shows me how to do times tables easily. You can learn a lot about times tables in this book. Kailey E. L., 10 years old

  • 5/14/14 - My daughter has completed your math books and they were enormously helpful! I used the books for my 10 year-old who struggles to just simply memorize facts. We used the books as part of our homeschool program and I was very impressed. It has just the right balance of presenting the “tricks” and continual review to make memorizing math facts doable for those who have difficulty with rote memorization. A.P., parent

  • 9/8/13 - I’ve purchased all of your books and had much success with using them with my child. I’ve recommended them to other parents. Thank you so much for a great product. Nancy M., parent

  • 6/15/13 - Testimonial received for Two Plus Two Is Not Five when I was at the CHEC Homeschool conference: We are a homeschooling family and enjoy working a page a day along with our other math curriculum to keep the facts fresh in our children's minds. The tricks they have learned have stuck with them and Mom has even learned a few! Morgan 5 Homeschool

  • 2/26/13 - Thank you for writing these books. I am a homeschool mom, and they have been extremely helpful and I hope that you would develop more. Genevieve

  • 2/11/13 - The math program is really working! Happy to say that my 1st grader is no longer crying during her timed math tests. It is the only thing that has made sense to her because it isn’t random rote meaningless drilling. She can do it! I have a tool for both of my girls, and know that when we get to multiplication and division, we won’t need to worry! We can’t thank you enough! Laura S.

  • 11/26/12 - I am homeschooling my 10 year old dyslexic child who also has memory and processing speed issues. Your books have been enormously helpful and I am so grateful for you for putting math into terms both of us can understand and enjoy. Thanks so much! Terry B.

  • 6/26/12 - I just had to write to thank you so much for your wonderful books. We followed your directions with the flash cards, and have practiced every day. In only one month, she has learned all of the addition and subtraction facts. She can do them in the book and orally with the flash cards. It is truly amazing to see how she responds to the tricks. You can actually see the “light go on” in her eyes when she understands. We will keep reviewing these and start the multiplication book so she will be ready for 3rd grade. I have told many people about your books. Lisa C.

  • 5/6/12 - Thank you so very much for writing the book Two Plus Two Is Not Five! I am a retired second grade teacher, and I am using it with my second grade granddaughter and my third grade grandson. They are enjoying it so much, learning their math facts easily, and are pleased that school time tests are getting easier for them. Oma Dell M., TX

  • 9/16/11 - Before we found Two Plus Two is Not Five, we tried at least half a dozen learning systems and workbooks to teach math to our 4 year-old son. But we found that he was not able to learn much from them other than counting up the numbers on his fingers or pictures on the page. Then we happened upon the Two Plus Two is Not Five system. From the start, he has mastered the tricks easily. As part of the exercises, he has learned a number of new skills including counting backwards, counting by twos and adding/subtracting doubles. The system of learning the trick, practicing, and then doing the mixed exercises has quickly reinforced the learning and helped us immediately spot weaknesses in learning that we worked with him to correct. The structure of the book makes it easy to sit down with him, walk him through the tricks, and let him practice until he masters the skills. There is limited parental preparation involved, and we go through one page a night, five nights a week. Deborah and David L., Palo Alto, CA

  • 9/15/11 - I'm such a fan of your books that I just had to reply. I have both the addition/subtraction and multiplication book (found them online) and I'm dearly hoping that you're working on a division version! I'm a parent who is supplementing my son's math education at public school with your books. He has a terrific school and teachers, but has ADD and math is his least preferred activity so it's a challenge! I'm working with him on just the basic math facts so that his learning in other math areas in school is supported by a solid foundation. The schools really don't have the time to thoroughly address basic math facts, and I'm happy to take on the task particularly when I have terrific tools like yours to use. Claire C., Portland, OR

  • 2/3/11 - Finally a book for parents and school that scientific studies have supported for years! I have purchased both of your books and math facts finally make sense! Thank you for all of your work! I hope we will see it in schools soon! Karen L.

  • 1/14/11 - My daughter had trouble remembering addition and subtraction facts. I was looking for an alternative way to teach these facts to restore her confidence and help her “get it.” Two Plus Two Is Not Five was exactly what she needed. She was able to check off facts as she learned, and the repetitiveness was crucial to her success. She now knows her addition and subtraction facts without counting on her fingers! Beverly T.

  • 9/2/09 - My eight year old daughter has a learning disability that really shows up in math. When learning a simple addition or subtraction fact, she’d perfect, and then forget. After flashcards, software, other workbooks, tutoring, manipulatives and summer school, I decided to try Two Plus Two is Not Five. I can see now that she “gets it.” She can recall the trick when she sees the numbers. She is so excited about being successful and absolutely loves math. The book may anchor my daughter’s academic future. Thank you. Janice L. F., Tallahassee, FL

  • 7/20/09 - I just bought the book Five Times Five Is Not Ten, and love the strategies to teach multiplication. The hands on activities, along with strategies will help my students to really "see" and know their facts, not just skip counting to get to the next multiplication facts. I like the book so much I'm ordering the Two Plus Two Is Not Five to see how to help 1st and 2nd grade with their addition and subtraction. It's obvious a lot of research has gone into these books. Kim V.

  • 6/13/09 - Two Plus Two Is Not Five is an awesome book. I bought the book the summer after my son’s kindergarten year. I wanted him to be able to add some of the smaller numbers without having to count on his fingers or draw stick figures. I switched some of the chapters around because he was grasping some concepts faster than others. When we got to the “trick” for Number in the Middle, I made a car game out of it, and began asking numbers in the middle as we were driving. Once he mastered that, I began using the practice worksheets. A huge success! This summer we will be working on some other addition and subtraction facts as well as moving into the multiplication book. I told all of my friends about the book, how it has enhanced my son’s ability to add and subtract with accuracy and speed as well as build his confidence in math. Lastly, his teacher told me that he was one of her brightest math students. Tessa S., South Florida

  • This is a great new math workbook for the early grades. Greenwald takes years of experience as a teacher and distills it into a very thorough grounding in addition and subtraction. Unlike many math workbooks, which often seem overly simplistic and include relatively few problems to solve, Greenwald builds knowledge through a series of tricks or concepts and drills them home through multiple problems. This book has been tested by my 2nd grader, and it passed with flying colors. Two Plus Two is Not Five is a great resource to supplement your child’s math homework. Rich R., Bookseller.

  • 6/1/07 - We've repeatedly been asked if we knew of a product to help with memorization of addition and subtraction facts. We've FINALLY found a resource we feel we can wholeheartedly recommend. Susan Greenwald's workbook offers lots of practice and reinforcement and uses some great memory tricks as well. Plus, it's totally reproducible! T. Memory Systems

  • Affordable rates; payment plans and discounts available

  • Conveniently located in the Mid-Cities area

    About Suzuki:

Based on how young children learn their mother tongue, the Suzuki method was developed over fifty years ago by a Japanese violinist, Shinichi Suzuki. Suzuki's method and philosophy have been established world-wide, boasting of over 8,000 teachers and over a quarter of a million students. A recent poll done in Juilliard School of Music showed that nearly 80% of music students were Suzuki trained.

Realizing that each student develops differently, the method is structured to allow students to move at their own pace. Lessons are ideal for both serious students and students who just want to learn more about music.

    About the teacher:

Christina Leano was Suzuki trained and has been playing the violin since she was four years old. Five of her siblings also play. Homeschooled through high school, Christina graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Dallas in 2011. She is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is looking forward to expanding her studio and sharing her love of music with students of all ages.

    P.E. Program

Sessions for 6-9 years old (or strong, athletic 5 years old) are from 10:00 to 11:30. Sessions for ages 10 and up are from 11:30 to 1:00.

The sessions are held at the Mansfield Activity Center (106 South Wisteria Street, 76063 - near 287 and Broad St.) on Wednesdays starting July 13th. The Library is right next door and you will also have use of the other parts of the facility. This is also close to outdoor fields which Steve may take advantage of sometimes to provide your children with a more rich experience.

The cost for the 5 week program is $50 per child, paid to the MAC when you sign up. You may also register online.

If you do not have a MAC card there is a one time annual membership fee:

Resident (76063 zip) Non Resident (not 76063 zip)

  • Youth 2-17Y $5/year $12/year

  • Adult 18-54 $10/year $17/year

  • Senior 55+ $5/year $12/year

  • *Family $25/year $32/year

  • * A family membership is good for up to 6 people living in the same household.

    Here are Steve’s primary goals:

  • FUN! I really want the exercise, games, etc. to be fun for every child regardless of their present skill and athletic ability.

  • LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT--We play different sports--learn how to enjoy and play all major sports. I want every child to develop a basic level of proficiency in every major team sport. I am trying to help each child develop basic athletic skills and confidence related to sports in general: health & fitness for overall strength and coordination and team experience.

  • My goal is to have them learn how to play all sorts of team games with the tactics and positions so each one will have the confidence and basic skills to join any sport whether it is a pick-up situation, organized program or competitive Select one.

  • LIFE-LESSONS--Playing sports is a great environment to build self-confidence, social skills and life-lessons. I love sharing stories of life and biblical principles to support parents in raising healthy children. Sports and competition are not really about winning and losing but rather developing our abilities and appreciating our God-given talents--recognizing, appreciating and celebrating our different gifts.

Steve's Bio: I am a missionary kid and my wife, Eva, and I have home-schooled our five children. Three have graduated with GPA's of 4.0 from UTA! I was a two-time All-American from Wheaton College, played on the US Olympic soccer team and played professionally for seven years in the NASL and Europe. For the past twenty years, I have been a missionary—pastor and sports evangelist. I train kids in soccer at all levels, run soccer camps around the world and served for six years as a pastor and sports evangelist in Portugal. I have a USSF B license and continue to run outreach soccer skills and camps and soccer mission trips. I also played Club A volleyball and tennis both on the high school and college team, earning state champion in doubles in Illinois.

Steve Long grew up playing soccer with friends in the dirt streets of Brazil. After graduating from Wheaton College, Steve played in 1979 and 1980 on the US Olympic team, completing a 32-nation European tour. Since then, Steve has also played for the Chicago Sting (NASL), the Memphis Americans (MISL), the Las Vegas Americans (MISL), and the Jackson Rockers (MISL indoor). He holds a USSF “B” National Coaching License.

Steve has been training kids around the world—from African refugees in Portugal, to gang kids in Miami, to local American kids who hope to hone their skills and improve their game.

Steve’s philosophy is to improve by applying skills in actual game settings. He teaches plenty of fun, samba-style, Brazilian moves and gives players plenty of time to try them out in three-on-three or five-on-five games.

The Meals on Wheels program in Dallas County is currently recruiting new volunteers so that they can expand the program to feed more homebound elderly and disabled people.

They need help delivering lunch-time meals all over Dallas County--from Oak Cliff to Grand Prairie to the Garland and Mesquite areas.

They currently have several homeschooling mother-daughter teams that volunteer with Meals on Wheels on a weekly and/or monthly basis, and seem to really enjoy it.

This is a wonderful opprotunity to give back to the community, and in particular, our elderly.

Please contact Jeanne Foote at(214) 689-0068 or by email at footej@vnatexas.org for more information or to sign up. Please mention you are members of Homeschooler's Hearts & Hugs!

Easyread is an online phonics course specifically developed for kids with dyslexia, auditory processing disorder and highly visual learning styles.

Here's what one mom had to say about the Easyread System:

"I remember the first time my son Leo read a word. After 4 years of reading struggles, my eyes welled up with tears when I heard him read each sound and blend them into a word. He was only 7 days into the Easyread System, but for me it was the miracle I had been waiting for! He was in 3rd grade reading at a Kindergarten level, but with Easyread he caught up to reading at grade level in less than a year!" -- Linda
