We are here in this Chapter of the Red Hat Society, first of all to enjoy each other and to celebrate this age and stage of our lives, whether Red Hat or Pink Hat.

Therefore, the only rule is that there are no rules. This is Recess!

As the name implies, depending on your "red" or "pink" status, Red or Pink hats will be worn at all official gatherings or outings of the Hatters Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Additionally, purple or lavendar clothing will be worn. Jewlery and other adornments are optional ... official colors are a must!

But, if any member consistently refuses to wear full regalia, then she is making it clear that she really isn't interested in being a member of the Red Hat Society. Sporting the colors is how we make ourselves identifiable to the world, and to each other. It seems little enough to ask.

Exception to this rule: Members may wear reverse colors in their birthday month.

Men are not invited to our get togethers unless they are cooking or driving!

Exeption to this rule: There is no exception to this rule.

Children should not be at the events or gatherings.

Minimum age for attendance or membership is 21.

Exception to these rules: There is no exception to these rules.

Activities should be a good mix of venues; i.e., in members' homes, restaurants, field trips, teas, etc. The "Angels of Activities" will make certain there is an event each month, and will help to fine-tune the arrangements. Each member of the Hatters Chapter, however, is urged to sign up for a month where she will assist the "Angels" with planning.

The chapter is currently closed for new members. Members who miss three consecutive official events, will risk loosing their place on the roster. In conversation with this member, Queen Mum will determine whether she is serious about belonging to this Chapter. Queen Mum will then notify the Hatters membership, will remove the member from the chapter roster and notify Hatters Ladies via email.

Exception to this rule: Perhaps, from time to time

With medical, family and travel excuses aside, failure to attend 3 get-togethers in a row will put your name on the inactive list. If you want to be removed from the member list, just call Queen Mum, so others on the waiting list may be considered. If you want to remain active in the chapter...BE ACTIVE!

Exception to this rule: There is no exception to this rule.

A waiting list will exist for those wanting to be a member of the Heights Hatters. If a vacancy should occur, the one on the list the longest shall have the option of membership. Preference will be given to members of AHUMC. If declined, the option will fall to the next, and so on. If no one is on the waiting list, a new member may be recommended to the chapter by a member-in-good-standing.

Visitors or guests are most welcome at our events! Only one visitor or guest per member is requested. Common courtesy would dictate that if the event is being held in a member's home, that member have the final word on how many she is able to accommodate in her home. The same visitor should not come to more than two consecutive events. At that time, she should be put on the waiting list.

Exception to this rule: There is no exception to this rule.

RSVP is a lost art; we should resurrect it!
*Keruffle* (meaning to throw into disorder, ruffle, confusion or fuss) - RSVP's are very important, especially to our hostesses. If your RSVP is not received by the cut off date given, you will NOT be able to attend the event. We desire to be fun-loving and forget the rules, but we are not to be irresponsible to our fellow Hatters.

Exception to this rule: You may contact Queen Mum by phone to request being able to come even though you did not RSVP because someone may have canceled.

Preferred communication between Queen Mum and her chapter ladies is via email (although HRH dearly loves to chat on the phone). If a member, however, does not have regular access to email, she should notify Queen Mum and the Dialing Diva for other arrangements to be made for receiving important news and the newsletter.

An Activity Sign-Up Sheet will be circulated amongst the chapter members, whereby they are able to sign up by twos to come up with one of the monthly activites, events, or gatherings. The Angels of Activities will help, as requested or required, to finalize the details and plans of these monthly activities, etc., in turn notifying Queen Mum of the details in order for the broadcast announcement to be made in the newsletter.

When a Pink Hat becomes a Red Hat, Queen Mum and the Angels will plan for the Reduation Ceremony.

Our Song

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

(recreated by Julie Andrews on the occasion of her 69th birthday and sung to the tune of "My Favorite Things")
