Artistic Award ~ To organize and facilitate a program through which 1st through 5th graders, with artistic interest and skills may earn financial awards to be used toward tuition at children art school.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible applicants of the Joseph C. Howard, III Scholastic/Artistic Award must:
• Be in the 1st through 6th grades
• Currently live in the state of Texas
• Be seeking to attend an accredited
Christian private school in the 2009-
2010 school year
OR
• Have a desire to learn a skill of art at
an art school during the 2009-2010
school year
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Christian schools of choice must not only be accredited, but registered with the Texas School Directory: Texas Education Agency in Austin, Texas.
APPLICATION
Applications will be available beginning July 1, 2009. All completed applications received or postmarked by the deadline, July 31, 2009, will be considered in the selection process. These dates are essential due to the early registration in most private schools. Incomplete application will be returned to the applicant with instructions for successful completion. The postmarked deadline of July 31, 2009 is still applicable. Therefore, it is advisable that applicants complete the process as soon as possible in the event corrections to their applications are required. All materials must be mailed to:

All applicants will receive a letter advising that the Awards Committee is reviewing their application. Award recipients will be notified by mail no later than August 8, 2009.All essays and artwork will become the property of the Joseph C. Howard, III Scholastic/Artistic Award Fund and will be be returned to applicants.
ESSAY
Essays must address the selected topic for each scholarship award category and must be the student’s original work. Students not adhering to the rules of this fund will be disqualified.
• The Scholastic Award – Students
must submit a 50 word handwritten essay
answering the following question: “Why a
Christian Education Is Important To
Me?”
• The Artistic Award - Students must
submit a 30 word handwritten essay
answering the following question: “How
Can I Use My Artistic Skills to Help
Others?” Students must also submit visual
artwork – pencil sketches, painting,
watercolor, clay sculpture or other three-
dimensional pieces - depicting their essay
response.
Students submitting their essay via regular mail must submit one copy of their essay and attach their registration form to only one copy. The second copy should contain no personal identification information.
SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS
Scholarship recipients are selected on a number of criteria:
•Scholarship essay and/or artwork
• Scholarships will be offered to those
demonstrating a financial need, but
are not limited to students not
demonstrating a financial need. A
student’s financial need will be
calculated by this organization.

data section of the application are found
on page 2 of the application.
• Selection of scholarship recipients is
subject to the Joseph C. Howard, III
Scholastic/Artistic Award Judging
Committee.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: In the event
of a tie, the founder of this
organization will make the final
selection.
• All recipients of the 2009 scholarship
awards will be notified no later than
August 8, 2009 of the current school
year.
AWARDS
The Joseph C. Howard, III Scholastic/Artistic Award fund will provide an annual monetary to two or more qualifying individuals who demonstrate scholastic aptitude and/or artistic talent through the organization application process. Recipients for the 2009 school year will receive a financial award to be used toward tuition at an accredited private Christian school or children's art school. Awards up to $3,000 each will be given in one of the following areas: scholastic achievement; OR artistic ability. Please note that we are giving several awards in this inaugural year. As donations increase through our fundraising efforts, more scholarships will be awarded. As previously mentioned, the scholastic award winners must be seeking to attend a Christian private school, and the artistic award winner must be seeking to enroll in a children’s art school founded on Christian principles. Awards are contingent upon the acceptance of the recipient's at an accredited private Christian school or children's art school.
Winners must notify the JCH Award fund of their acceptance at an accredited Christian school no later than one week from the date of their acceptance. If an award recipient fails to contact the organization, a runner-up will be notified and given the same opportunity as the original winner.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: The Christian private school and children’s art school selections are subject to the guidelines of this memorial fund.
SELECTION OF SCHOLARSHIPS
The Joseph C. Howard, III Scholastic/Artistic Award fund will disperse monies per scholarship for the new 2009 – 2010 school year. The monies will be distributed as follows:
• Scholastic Award up to $3,000
• Artistic Award up to $3,000
Funds will be paid directly to the schools each winner will attend for the 2009 – 2010 school year. Again, the Christian private school and children’s art school selections are subject to the guideline of this memorial fund.
OBLIGATIONS
Acceptance of the scholarships constitutes permission for the Joseph C. Howard, III Scholastic/Artistic Award fund to use recipient’s names and pictures for publicity purposes. It is the responsibility of the recipient to notify this organization of any changes in contact information, including phone numbers, address, current school information , etc.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Joseph C. Howard, III Scholastic/Artistic Award fund reserves the right to interpret and review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.
Scholarship funds will be applied to the principle amount of tuition only. Recipients shall be responsible for any and all taxes. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
