Minutes of the Lambda Pi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Area X
Date: February 3, 2009 Location: Woman’s Wednesday Club
Chapter President: Suzan Watson
The Lambda Pi Chapter was called to order by Chapter President Suzan Watson at 4.34 pm.
Shirley Wade gave an inspiration. Guest, Pat Toombs was welcomed.
Ann Schmidt, Program Chairman, presided over the Love to Lambda Pi program.
Retired members provided the “Love to Lambda Pi” dinner.
Donations were accepted to the Scholarship Fund. BUSINESS
Approval of Minutes: January minutes were read aloud by President Suzan Watson.
A correction of the spelling of Blackmon was made.
Approval of Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s Report was printed in the newsletter and is filed as printed with no corrections made.
· President Suzan Watson requested a volunteer to be the Web Watcher to inform membership of important information.
· Area X luncheon is February 21, 2009. MEMBERSHIP
· Members were asked to come up with a short “Create the Buzz” elevator speech for the April meeting.
· 20082010 International Membership Committee has issued the SHOEIN Challenge.
Explanation: Maintain the number of members from January 2009 through May 2010. Increase the overall number of members. Add a member from an educational environment not currently represented in our chapter.
· New member recommendation forms were at the sign in table to be taken and completed. Lynn Smith, Membership Chairman, will receive recommendations by March 3, 2009. She will email a ballot to membership with a response vote due by March 16, 2009. Initiation will be April 7, 2009.
· Membership report: Total Membership 42, Reserve 1, Honorary 1, Present 21
· Alpha State convention is June 1113, 2009 in Corpus Christi. The deadline for registration without the late fee is April 23, 2009. A registration form was inserted in the Lone Star News and is also available on the Alpha State website.
· The Southwest Regional Convention is July 611, 2009 in Reno, Nevada. Registration is also on the Alpha State website. COMMITTEE REPORTS
· Patrece Norman, Scholarship and GrantinAid Chairman, announced $587 was collected today adding to and totaling our total fund to $927.
· Jo Shafer and Ann Lockard, Personal Growth and Services CoChairman, prepared a Valentine card and gift card for our adopted case worker, Brigitte Eichler. Everyone present signed the card. ANNOUNCEMENTS
· Congratulations were extended to Linda Somervill for appointment to the Alpha State Nominations Committee.
· Congratulations were extended to Suzan Watson for her new job as Reading Specialist at Baccus Elementary. The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 pm.
