Our group has currently 144 members and is still growing! We keep up with the latest information out on the drug market for patients and care-takers. Vitamins play an important role in maintaining health. We emphasize that aspect also in this group. Please take a look at our site and email the webmaster , myself, Rebecca (Becca) Henry. | Alice in Wonderland......Migraines? Who ever thought, that the story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is actually a story about the writer who was a photographer and had Migraine attacks? He wrote this story down over One Hundred years ago! The Medical Community has come a long way in One Hundred Years yet it still has a little ways to go for the Migraineur! The Migraineur Must take an Active part in their Health care! We, the patients, and the doctors, have to EDUCATE OTHER DOCTORS AND FRIENDS AND FAMILIES OF THIS ILLNESS WHICH IS A DISEASE SAYS THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOSCIATION! Often, people think that those with Migraines are just drug addicts, alcoholics or cannot handle life at that moment in time. They do not see the REAL REASON behind the FREQUENT trips to the Emergency room! The people with the Migraines make frequent trips to the restroom for nausea and vomiting, wear dark sunglasses because of sensitivity to light and stay in a closed room because of sensitivity to sound also. They could leave work early and might have their speech become slurred. They may become engaged in erratic behavior. ALL of this, because of a little thing, a Disease, called a Migraine! "The corresponding cost to industry and the health care system due to Migraine is estimated to be between $5 billion and $17 billion dollars a year. " Most people with Migraine continue to work despite their illness. Usually the employer is accomodating to their needs. HOWEVER, The Latest Economic Studies that came out found that for those with Severe Migraine, there is a 10-20% Unemployement Rate. That rate is several times Higher than that of the general population! Did you know? More people died of a Migraine stroke last year than people killed by a handgun? According to Spectra BioMedical, Reasearchers are in advance of a diagnosable objective DNA test for the person with Severe Migraine to let them get ahold of this disabling condition. Possibly then, the migraineur might be able to get some form of HELP from the Doctors and State or Federal Government. Copyright,Teri Robert. Used with permission. www.migraines.org M.A.G.N.U.M. |
M.A.G.N.U.M. There are many organizations out on the web to help those who have migraines. The address is www.migraines.org It is called M.A.G.N.U.M. Vitamins are very important in today's Health. More and more today, the medical world is discovering that vitamins hold a key in reducing side effects of a symptom or perhaps reducing it to nothing at all! I am currently taking CoQEnzyme10 for the past year and have seen a great deal of improvement in my headaches. CoQEnzyme10 is the latest vitamin on the market that is good for cardiac health YET it is also good for the stabilization of the mitochondria in the brain that tell the cells to produce energy! What the researchers believe to happen in a patient with a migraine, is that NOT ENOUGH mitochondria are made in the brain and thus a Migraine appears or happens! The enzyme must be taken for at least three weeks to see any effect. To get a good effect, it must be taken four to six weeks at least two to three times a day at least 50mg. It can get expensive for one bottle of 30 caplets of 50mg is $13.00. This is one of the hardships of having this migraine disease, the cost. Yet, that goes with the territory! Copyright,Teri Robert. Triptans/Abortives and the role they play There are several types of Migraine relief pills to take at the first sign of a headache/Migraine and when you take it, the Migraine may be STOPPED within an hour, usually. Some examples of what might be prescribed for you are 1. Imitrex 2. Zomig 3. Frovitriptan 4. Amerge 5. Axert 6. Relpax Relpax is the newest prescription drug, or "triptan" out on the market and can only be taken at 2 pills at most per day, but has shown fantastic improvement over the other triptans. The last statement is considered my own opinion in a way. These Prescriptions are of the following class called "triptans" which are directed to the blood flow in the brain. A newer drug out on the market, is called "D.H.E." which is an Abortive and works quite well. The medicine has to be compounded though by a pharmacist and then put into capsules. Before I became Allergic to Imitrex, it worked quite well for me and took my migraines away! My Neurologist then put me on Zomig which took away my migraines about 75 percent of the time. I eventually became immune to it and my doctor started me on some samples of frovitriptan. I tried it and one time it took away my migraine COMPLETELY Yet, The Other times , it did NOT WORK ON THE MIGRAINES. So, my Doctor put me on the "triptan" called Amerge 2.5mg and that has been the BEST yet overall. I like this one. The Amerge stopped working in September 2004 and so I tried "Axert 2.5mg" as needed. It is for cluster migraines. It has really helped out! I will stick to this one for awhile now! My neurologist has added Relpax 40mg and I can take up to two tablets a day. This has been the most promising triptan and takes my migraines away completely without a return. Yea! Copyright,Teri Robert.
