On January 31, 1998, three Zetas Sorors Andrea Charlton, Melissa Guidry, and Linda Y. Jackson, met at the home of Soror Guidry to review the written criteria for starting a graduate chapter. Additional Sorors were contacted and called to a meeting at the home of Soror Andrea Charlton on February 6, 1998 with the understanding that five members were needed to form a chapter. In all eleven (11) Sorors formed the charter of the newly named Pi Omega Zeta Chapter on April 10, 1998 (charter signed March 18, 1998) to be located in Round Rock, Texas. The charter members are: Erin Abernathy, Annette Aron, Andrea Charlton, Melissa Guidry, Kimberly M. Harris, Linda Y. Jackson, Denise Jones, Kimberly R. Keys, Jackie Sams, L'Oreal Stepney, and Mary Thomas. Two reclaimed Sorors, Sandra Brown and Kimberly Young were also initated along with the charter members.

SUCCESSES

Since the original chartering, Pi Omega Zeta was worked diligently to serve the Round Rock and Williamson County, Texas Areas. The different chapter Presidents and their administrations have accomplished an enormous amount in only five short years.

Soror Linda Y. Jackson President (April 1998 - July, 31 2001)

  • Started First Stork's Nest in Williamson County and Round Rock
  • Received $5000 grant from March of Dimes for Stork's Nest
  • First Zydeco Dance Fundraiser held at Old Settler's Park
  • Worked with Round Rock Independent School District on Exhibits for Hopewell Restoration Project which was the First and Only School for African American Children in Round Rock from 1921 - 1996
  • Participated in First March of Dimes Walk America
  • First Scholarship given to undergraduate Zeta
  • First Youth Group formed

Soror L'Oreal Stepney President (August 1, 2001 - July 31, 2003)

  • With record attendance, hosted 74th Annual Southern Region Conference and Youth Retreat. This Conference was the first Southern Region Conference attended by the 22nd International Grand President, Barbara C. Moore; and the first conference under the leadership of Regional Director Mary Wright. Past Grand President Barbara West Carpenter attended as well and installed new officers.
  • Sponsored First Black History Art Contest in Round Rock Independent School District (contest held district wide in 4 high schools)
  • Continued work on exhibits for Hopewell Restoration Project which was the First and Only School for African American Children in Round Rock from 1921 - 1996
  • First Joint Founder's Day celebration with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. chapters: Alpha Kappa Zeta, Upsilon Alpha, Omicron Theta, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
  • First Chapter Retreat held
  • First scholarships given to high school graduates including First Archonette Graduate and Graduates from 4 High Schools in Round Rock

Soror Andrea M. Charlton (August 1, 2003 - July 31, 2005)

  • Curently pursing Tax exempt status and a permanent home for the Chapter.
  • First chapter website designed
  • Won nearly 10 youth awards at the 75th Regional Conference
  • Hosted first Founder's Day with an outside guest speaker, Soror Dr. Nell Ingram
