Psi Zeta History Feeling the need of social and literary communication with each other, the Zeta's of Fort Worth decided to meet together and formulate plans by which they could reach college women in our city who are sorority minded and who desire to affiliate with a group who had for its objective the ideal of Finer Womanhood. On December 11, 1937, the triumphant Soror Luellelia Walker Harrison granted the charter - the name being Psi Zeta. Felder* Gladys Wright* Nora Lee Thurman* Mary Collins McMillan* Notable Facts about Psi Zeta: November 10, 1974: Psi Zeta Chapter was fortunate to charter its Amicae Auxiliary. May 1973: Psi Zeta has operated its national cooperative program - Storks Nest. May 2007: Psi Zeta celebrated our 70th Anniversary and hosted the Southern Regional Conference. Triumphant Soror Juanita Bates was a charter member of three chapters in the Mighty Southern Region - Theta Chapter at Wiley College in Marshall, TX, Lambda Zeta Chapter in Houston, TX and Psi Zeta Chapter in Fort Worth, TX. She also served as National 2nd Vice President of our beloved sorority from 1937-1939. Sunrise-McMillian Elementary School in the city is named in memory of Triumphant Soror Mary Collins McMillian who served as principal of Sunrise Elementary School for many years. Soror Hazel F. Wilson was the first recipient of the Zeta Legacy award in 1976 at the Atlanta boule'. Soror Wilson also served as the 9th Regional Director of the Mighty Southern Region, National Director of the Stork's Nest and as a National Trustee. Soror Wilson served as the President of Psi Zeta chapter for fourteen years - the longest of any president of our chapter. Psi Zeta was the 4th graduate chapter organized in the Mighty Southern Region. Soror Alberta Thomas served as the National Amicae Director. Soror Christine Moss serves as a member of the Fort Worth Independent School District School Board. Soror Moss also has an elementary school named in her honor in the city. Triumphant Soror Alma R. G. Parish has an activity building name in her memory on the campus of Van Zandt-Guinn Elemenary School in the city. Soror Rochelle White Grisafi is presently the Area II Coordinator (West Texas) for the Mighty Southern Region. Soror Irene Toliver is presently the West Texas State Director for the Mighty Southern Region. *deceased |
