November 27, 2012 at 12pm to Learn More about Legislative Priorities that impact Texas Children

On November 27, 2012, McKinney Council of PTAs invites you to attend a very special program that allows us as parents and educators to learn more about the major Legislative Issues impacting our children in Texas, including:

  • Public School Funding
  • High Stakes Testing¡XSTAAR & EOC.

All are welcome! Please bring your lunch and join us at MISD Central Office, 1 Duvall Street, McKinney, for this amazing opportunity to come together to learn and be part of the solution for positive change for our Texas students!
Our presenter will be Ellen Arnold. Ms. Arnold represents Texas PTA before the Texas Legislature and will be travelling from Austin to speak to us about how we can better understand how to effect policymaking decisions. Prior to joining Arnold Public Affairs in 2002, Ms. Arnold worked in the field of education for over 20 years.
With $5.4 billion cut from the current public school budget, we are faced with great concerns in the state of Texas. We must urge policymakers to restore this budget to fund enrollment growth and the remediation costs associated with STAAR and EOC tests. Plus, we must advocate that the school finance system be re-written so that it is equitable and adequate for every child.
Even if your child is currently not in a grade level that takes the STAAR test or the EOC tests administered in high school, it is imperative that we join forces to require policymakers to make adjustments to the new statewide High Stakes testing assessment program. These tests have a huge impact on the future of all Texas students.
Join us for this informative program, so that we may all learn more and work together as advocates for the future of Texas children!
