ASPCA PET POISON HOTLINE

The ASPCA has a poison control hotline phone number for pets. This is the only dedicated animal poison control hotline in the world manned by veterinarians, not telephone operators. The number is staffed 24/7 at (888) 4ANI-HELP or (888) 426-4435.

FERAL CAT HOTLINE

If you need assistance with feral cats, please call the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition Hotline at 210-877-9067 and leave a message.

BEFORE YOU SURRENDER YOUR PET TO
SAN ANTONIO ANIMAL CONTROL . . .

Be aware that the pound's policy on owner surrenders is "we hold the animal as long as we have space available". Knowing that almost 50,000 animals were euthanized in this facility in 2004, space is ALWAYS extremely limited! This means that your pet may have NO chance to be adopted.

Please be responsible: use the resources in this website to help your pet find a safe and happy new home!

Statistics

2007
Total animals euthanized: 32,210

2006
Total animals euthanized: 33,785

2004
Total animals euthanized: 48,361

Do these numbers look big to you? They should! The sheer volume of animals coming into animal control is overwhelming. Even more overwhelming is the percentage of these that are owner surrenders - nearly 1/3! Please do not adopt a pet if you are not committed to care for this animal (physically, emotionally and financially) for the rest of its life. This could mean the next 15-20 years!

The above statistics have been obtained form sources we believe to be reliable, but we cannot guarantee its accuracy or completeness.
