Chris's Bridge/Eagle Scout Ceremony Chris, who has been dancing with the Shufflin' Shoes since he was nine years old, completed a new bridge for the Richardson Independent School District's Environmental Studies Center. The bridge was his final project to qualify for Eagle Scout rank.
Chris, who attends Berkner High School in Richardson and is a member of Scout Troop 81 and Venture Crew 904, began planning the project in May.
The boardwalk is a 48-foot-long, raised walkway over an area of the Environmental Center trail that frequently floods. It has railings along each side and is wide enough to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
Chris raised more than $2,000 to pay for the supplies needed to build the walkway and also organized and managed the more than twenty people who helped him with the construction.
Planning involved creating construction drawings, presenting plans to the ESC manager as well as the RISD grounds personnel, making revisions to reflect changes requested, raising funds, and recruiting, organizing and managing the volunteer work crew. The actual construction took place over two weekends in September 2008, and the result is an incredible gift to his school district and community.
Chris celebrated his eighteenth birthday on October 10. Happy Birthday, Chris, and congratulations! Your team is so proud of you.
