SPECIAL EVENTS PROVIDED BY PTO FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2007-2008

FALL SCHEDULE

SOUL STREET

October 4th at 2:00 pm for our THIRD GRADERS. Young Audiences of Houston’s dancers will perform “Taking it to the streets.” Catch the excitement of street dance as these energetic performers demonstrate its many varied styles and discuss the distinctive features and origins of each.


MAD SCIENCE

October 11th at 8:45 am for our FIRST GRADERS. Mad Science is a leading science enrichment provider. They will introduce the children to a world of discovery while sparking their imagination. Their shows are upbeat and interactive.


THE MORRIS BROTHERS

October 17th at 2:00 pm for our SECOND GRADERS. The Morris Brothers will be presenting their “Bullying Assembly” in their comedy act. This will teach kids to stop and think, learn ways to deal with bullying and also discuss decision making. They discuss the difference between reporting and tattling, as well as cooperation, respect, courage and self control.


STORYTELLER KATHY DUVAL

October 18th Mrs. Duval will be at our school spending time with our PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN students. She loves to inspire creativity in children and brings years of experience working in schools to her interactive presentations about writing. She will present a lively, interactive program with her book The Three Bears’ Halloween. It is a very friendly and fun book.


MUSIC IS WHERE YOU FIND IT

December 20th at 8:45am, "Strike 3 Percussion" will perform for KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADERS. The humble origins of found instruments, from buckets to cereal boxes, is contrasted with the dazzling artistry with which they are played, showing the true universality of the musical spirit. Improvisation and audience participation make this one-of-a-kind experience interactive and fun.



BARTHOLOMEW'S READING ADVENTURE

December 21st at 8:45 am, AD Players with Young Audiences of Houston will be here to perform for FIRST AND SECOND GRADERS. Bartholomew Stead does not like to read and says it is something he simply does not need. He meets a certain doctor who knows how to rhyme, and learns that reading is an adventure each and every time. It is sure to inspire students to read and write their own stories!


SPRING SCHEDULE
MORRIS BROTHERS

February 5th, 2008 2:00 pm TAKS Rally forThird Graders. The Morris Brothers introduce strategies for lowering stress and raising confidence. General test taking tips for prior to and during testing are given.


MAD SCIENCE

April 10th, 2008 8:45 am for our SECOND GRADERS. MAD Science will be back again with an audience-pleasing show filled with the latest special effects, hilarious antics and cool science. The teachers and students will both be entertained.


NANA PUDDIN’

April 29th, 2008 2:00 pm for our PRE-K, KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADERS. For over 20 years, Nana Puddin’ has been providing schools across the nation with great family oriented entertainment and inspirational speaking. Their show will consist of music combined with comedy and an unique blend of high-energy action. It will be a show all will enjoy.


MOBILE DAIRY CLASSROOM

May 2, 2008 for our KINDERGARTEN students. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is a non-profit, educational organization that is funded by dairymen across the southwest. It is a traveling milking parlor carrying a live cow and providing an oral presentation, a milking demonstration and question and answer session.


We are currently working on scheduling a few more shows as well. The list will be updated as these are confirmed.
