The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive.
The Compassionate Friends is a national nonprofit, self-help support organization that offers friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. There is no religious affiliation and there are no membership dues or fees.
The secret of TCF's success is simple: As seasoned grievers reach out to the newly bereaved, energy that has been directed inward begins to flow outward and both are helped to heal. The vision of The Compassionate Friends is that everyone who needs us will find us and everyone who finds us will be helped.
The Compassionate Friends of Wylie is a non-profit, self-help support group for bereaved parents. We are living the pain and despair brought by the loss of a loved one and have found understanding and friendship as we share our hurts and our joys through non-denominational fellowship. The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families in the positive resolution following the death of a child and to provide information to help others be supportive.
Death, what a terrible and feared word, yet we all have it in common.
Our precious children taken, too soon, at least as far as we are concerned.
Are they really gone, no, I don't think so.
My son Jon is not gone.
He is here, in the wind.
In the clouds, and in the rain
In the sun and in the moon,
In the butterflies and in the birds,
In the dragonflies that light upon my finger.
Jon is here in special dream visits,
He is here in precious memories
He is here, his strength and his love.
My son Jon is not gone, not to me,
I feel him daily, he is near,
He hears me cry, he hears me laugh.
He knows that my soul is aching and my heart is broken
He is here, but I can not see him
He is here, but I can not touch him
He is here, but I can not hear him.
My boy, my joy, my son Jon is here, for his love
his strength and precious memories, they keep me alive.
Are they really gone, no, I don't think so.

Since the early centuries, the butterfly has symbolized renewed life. The caterpillar signifies life here on earth; the cocoon, death; and the butterfly, the emergence of the dead into a new, beautiful and freer existence. Many members of The Compassionate Friends embrace the butterfly a symbol--a sign of hope to them that their children are living in another dimension with greater beauty and freedom-- a comforting thought to many.
