465199500705_0_BG.jpgGreetings from Gay Gardner Edwards ------- San Angelo, Texas:

San Angelo is between interstates I-20 & I-10,
about 3-1/2 hours southwest of Ft Worth.
It is a small West Texas town in Tom Green County
with a county population estimate of 110,000.

San Angelo is home to the Concho pearl, obtained from the Concho River that runs throughout the town, and becomes beautiful jewelry crafted by local jewelers. Our historic Fort Concho is an active event venue and tourist attraction. Fort Concho National Historic Landmark was recently declared "Best Preserved Fort" by the readers of True West magazine, a nationally distributed publication that specializes in Western history and heritage travel. Fort Concho will receive this recognition in True West's special 2012 edition that will cover the "Best of the West" in various categories-- truewestmagazine.com. February is the annual Livestock Show and Rodeo and parade. Along with ranching, San Angelo has been and is a sheep and wool industry area; colorful sheep sculptures are displayed throughout the town. The once popular Miss Hatties Bordello (now a museum) operated until 1946 when it was closed by the Texas Rangers. Along with the museum now is the beloved Miss Hatties Cafe Restaurant & Saloon, a favorite spot for both dining and entertainment. An annual "LILY FEST" is held to display our International Water Lily Collection; see the IWC website in the 'Links' section below left. There are many civic and social clubs as well as recreational activities. The annual "Showdown in San Angelo" drag boat races event (SDBA, Southern Drag Boat Assoc) is held at our Lake Nasworthy. San Angelo has two excellent hospitals and many doctors of every specialty. We have a Visitors Center, Symphony, Jazz Concert Series with well-known visiting artists, Civic Theatre, Fine Arts Museum, a youth Ballet school that annually presents the NUTCRACKER, and a youth Broadway Academy that presents several plays annually. Being in Western Texas, we of course have plenty of country-western music venues and blues music inns. Professional sports include the Colts Baseball Club and the Stampede indoor football. Proudly, Goodfellow Air Force Base is located here and an active participant in our community. We have Howard College and (ASU) Angelo State University, which was named to the Princeton Review List of "The Best 371 Colleges" nationally for 2010 and
"The Best 373 Colleges" for 2011 and again for 2012.

NOTE: There are songs in the "Links Section" on the bottom left column, if you would like to listen to music while visiting this site. You will have to minimize the tune to your task bar and click again on the website. Enjoy!

Manager DOC EDWARDS, San Angelo Colts Baseball

Doc was a catcher for the Cleveland Indians, the Kansas City Athletics, the New York Yankees (playing with Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris); as well as being a coach for the Philadelphia Phillies and bench coach for the New York Mets. He then started thru the manager's path with several minor league clubs of the MLB (Cal Ripken, Jr. was one of his young players), finally reaching the top as Manager of the Cleveland Indians. When the Arizona Diamondbacks got their expansion club, Doc was hired to be a Major League Scout to recruit the first team, of which he successfully obtained several key players. Doc and Gay were invited as guests to the Diamondbacks' grand opening gala and festivities for the first game of the new club. Doc is now enjoying the Independent Baseball League with its slower pace and more intimate rapport with the fans as he helps his young men to reach their "field of dreams" in professional baseball. Doc received his 'nickname' Doc when he was a U.S. Navy Medic, assigned to the U.S. Marines in California. That is where he was seen and signed by Hall of Fame great, Ralph Kiner, to a baseball career.

Please remember our armed forces as well as our allies' forces who are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are still many who are giving the ultimate sacrifice daily for our freedom. Pray for them, their families and our veterans who have already served.
They need to know that we are thankful.

"IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL"

Song:

It's a world of laughter,

A world of tears.

It's a world of hopes,

And a world of fears.

There's so much that we share,

That it's time we're aware,

It's a small world after all.

Chorus:

It's a small world after all.

It's a small world after all.

It's a small world after all.

It's a small, small world.

2d verse:

There is just one moon,

And one golden sun.

And a smile means,

Friendship to every one.

Though the mountains divide,

And the oceans are wide,

It's a small, small world.

(Repeat Chorus)

Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman

(song lyrics for Disney theme park ride "It's a Small World" at Disneyland and Disney World parks.)

Play the song from the Links Section at far left column of this page.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Yesterday is gone....

Be thankful for today and for life!

State Motto: FRIENDSHIP

Warmest Regards,
Gay Gardner Edwards

My favorite thought below:

"....and, this too shall pass"

Gam zeh ya'avor

It gives both Humility (when things are good, knowing this shall pass)

and

Hope (when things are bad, this too shall pass.)

To each belongs a season.... and this too shall pass.
