 Elementary Wilderness Camp
Discovery is the basis of this program! Students will explore the natural world through the use of their senses. Jupiter and its moons can be seen through our 10" aperture telescope and the microscopic world of pond life, as seen throght a microscope, will widen the eye. Their noses will smell the distinct odor of gunpowder during the muzzle loading rifle demonstration. Their ears will hear nature while walking through the woods on their way to nature crafts. Once there, students will use their hands and their sense of touch to craft amazing works of art! And how about tasting a delicious meal made during a campfire cookout?
The Elementary Wilderness Program allows you to choose interesting and interactive classes from nine academic subject areas. The curriculum complements and reinforces the TEKS frameworks thus partnering with the classroom teacher in providing a creative outdoor stage for learning!
You may also choose from our supplementary classes and activities to complement your experience at Timberline. Students and educators will enjoy participating together in activities such as wilderness games, night hikes, shelter building, and maybe even a counselor hunt! Haven't you felt like hiding from your students before? Well, here's your chance! By including these activities, students and educators have a chance to "play" together and see each other from different perspectives. Dividends pay richly in the classroom as students and educators reflect on shared experiences gained while at Timberline.
