SKYWARN Recognition Day 2009

SKYWARN Recognition Day will be held December 5, 2009 beginning at 6pm on Friday evening and lasting until 6PM Saturday evening.

Those HF(all bands), VHF, and UHF operators interesting contesting or just making contacts with National Weather Service offices and other amateur stations are invited to participate. This event is a mini-field day, so if you missed the regular one this year or got blown away before you were finished, consider attending this one. We will be operating from the National Weather Service office here in Amarillo.

QSL cards will be mailed to all contacts. Please contact, Terra, KE5ZRU to schedule an operating time. Loggers are also needed to work along side the control operator. You do not need a license to assist as a logger. Anyone interested in weather and ham radio is invited to participate in this position. Check the link on the bottom left of the home screen for more information

Straight Key Night

For the last couple of years, Texas has been the most active state on Straight Key Night. Help keep it that way. Join the fun that starts at 0000Z, 01 JAN 2010 (which is New Years Eve local time) and lasts 24 hours. The object is to work other SKN stations using a straght key or a bug, but no electronic keyers and ragchew for a few minutes. Most will tell what kind of key they are using and perhaps a bit of its history. A lot of stations run vintage gear during this event. Expect to hear a few Heath HW-16s, DX-20s, Globe Scouts, and maybe, just maybe a Command Set from a B-17 bomber. Filing a formal entry is easy, basically emailing a copy of the stations worked to the ARRL.

Keith Sproul Update

Keith Sproul is the son of Maury and Betty Sproul who was injured in the Balloon crash in Albuquerque. Keith is progressing well and is now back to work.
