The 2009 Picnic brought out several Scouts from BSA Troop 98 in Amarillo, Texas to try out Amateur Radio with WA8YYE acting as control operator using his VHF Go Kit. Members of the club, led by WD5FOI, helped the scouts obtain their Radio Merit Badge. The years work ended with the Scouts experiencing some HF DXing during the BSA Jamboree-on-the-Air from Camp Don Harrington.

PARC meets at the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) on 9th Street and Fannin, 9:30 am on the first Saturday of each month. There will not be a meeting on December 5 due to the club Christmas party being held earlier than usual.

Testing for amateur radio licenses is at 10:30 am following the PARC meeting. Same location.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the EOC center.

The PROTT (Panhandle Radio Operator Think Tank) meets for lunch every Wednesday at various eating locations in Amarillo. Please check out the PROTT web page or monitor the 146.94 repeater for notice on the next location or listen in on 3933 khz Panhandle Traffic and Emergency Net at 7pm CST Tuesday evenings for details.

HAM OF THE YEAR Award - At the November Club meeting, WA8YYE, Dan McCabe was elected as HAM OF THE YEAR. The Award, given annually, recognizes one who has given outstanding service to the Club during the past year. The award was announced at the annual Christmas Party December 1st. Dan is presently serving as the Club repeater Trustee and has been involved in the development of the club's lending library this year. Dan together with his wife Phyllis composed several brochures for the Club this year and he has presented several outstanding programs to the club. Dan was an active participant in the 2009 Field Day and Jamboree-On-The-Air Scout activities including a demonstration of PSK31 communication mode for the scouts.
