We know it's hard finding volunteer opportunities that are relevant to psychology majors, so we've pulled together a few suggestions. Although this list is not exhaustive, we hope you find it helpful. We encourage our members to get involved in volunteer activities for many reasons including personal growth, improving the lives of others, and it's a great resume builder!

Please remember:you must have 6 points to be invited to the end-of-semester banquet and to be eligible for an officer position for next year!

GENAustin's mission is to "help adolescent girls develop and maintain healthy self-esteem and leadership skills by educating them, parents, teachers, and others about cultural and media influences that seek to undermine girls' sense of self." There are several areas to volunteer at GENaustin including the volunteer committee, clubGEN, oriGENal Voice Committee as well as others. Check out the GENaustin website for more information and a volunteer application form.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Being a big brother or big sister is about spending time with with children doing small activities that will make a difference in their life. Through the Site-Based BigBrotherBigSister program you would meet at the child's school for about an hour each week during lunch for the school year. There is also a community-based opportunity to mentor a child three times a month for a minimum of one year. Previous volunteers have taken their Little Brother or Sister to Hobie Day on Lake Travis as well as an annual camp-out. Go online for more information and an application checklist.

VICTORY Tutoring Program
512-974-7524, Luci Zapata

Through this program, you will meet with the same student (K-12) once a week for atleast one semester to help them with either Reading or Math. You will be able to develop a rewarding and meaningful relationship with the student and help them succeed in school for a better future. Visit their website or call the number above for more information.
