IN The NEWS The Local Red Cross Chapter has had over 20 Local fires and we have responded to all 5 national disaster for the year 2007. We have trained over 200 individuals throughout the year. Welcome to the Red Cross Club
American Red Cross of UVU Club serves the campus student body and community to Be More Aware of Disaster Relief Efforts we provide Club Members a discount of 50% off CPR First Aid Certifications FREE Disaster Training. Oppourtunities for Leadership Skills. We provide volunteers for the Mountain Valley Red Cross Chapter of Provo.
Come Join Us, We Need You at the American Red Cross of UVU Club. Join Us and Make a Difference! $45.00 Club Membership Dues covers CPR and First Aid manual and the Certification Card plus the Volunteer T-Shirt. If you are currently Certified in CPR and First Aid as of December 2006 the club dues of $45 goes toward the Clubs administrative cost of maintaining this website free from pop-up advertisemnts and it helps reduce the cost in paper Copies. It also helps provide for the cost of the Disaster Training material and Leadership Training. You do get your dollars worth in Club membership for a whole year for a life long knowledge for any disaster and being able to save lifes.

Mission of the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative Support
No organization can function without individuals and team players that work behind the scenes. Support volunteers assemble course materials, assist with special projects, and perform a variety of administrative duties. It's a great way to learn the organization and help us maintain a strong internal structure without which we couldn't offer our many services.

Community Awareness Team
Many people know that the Red Cross provides disaster relief and collects blood/blood products from donors, but don’t realize that we offer many other vital programs and services to the community! As a CAT member, you will help deepen the public’s understanding of what we do, and the role they can play in supporting us.
Volunteers in this position will shadow current CAT members at events/information fairs and receive on-the-job training and orientation.
Varies depending on schedule. Events occur during the day, evening, and on weekends, and average about 8-10 hours in length (often divided into shifts of 2-3 hours).
Community Disaster Education (CDE) Project Coordinator
Assist with the coordination of CDE special project that will educate all individuals living in neighborhoods of high-risk incident on Disaster safety and prevention.
Minimum of 8-10 hours per week and one Saturday (4 hours) per month. Some work can be done from home. Must have computer (Microsoft programs), e-mail and Internet Service Provider availability.
Internships
The Red Cross offers opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students looking to gain on-the-job experience in the areas of business services, health services, emergency response, marketing/public relations, and volunteer administration.

Throughout the year, there are opportunities to become involved with the American Red Cross at Fundraising Events including the Red Cross Month Activities (March) and the Blood Drives (every semester). Club Rush Events, Club meetings, Presentations.

Disaster Action Team Member
Be a part of a team that provides emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring those affected have basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. Volunteers meet at chapter and drive to scene together in Red Cross vehicle supplied with relief equipment. At the scene, they report to official in charge, assess the situation, and initiate the appropriate Red Cross assistance.
Training
Introduction to Disaster Services (3 hours); DAT Orientation (3 hours); Community Service (Mass Care) (3hours); and other courses are required within one year of placement to maintain active status.
On Call 24/7 for local Disaster, (day shifts Mon-Fri: evening shifts: Weekends: Sat; Sun). A Mandatory monthly DAT meeting-1st Friday at 5:00 PM. Prefer commitment for a minimum of six months to 1 year.
Job Descriptions
All jobs are important, and all volunteers are part of the American Red Cross team. We want you to be familiar with the requirements of the various volunteer positions. We also want you to know what the American Red Cross does, and be able to answer some common questions that are asked about the American Red Cross and the blood donation process.
Some volunteer positions may require additional training that will be provided on-site. Due to the extensive training time required to become certified to perform certain tasks, volunteers are not assigned to tasks or duties that are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.
BLOOD DRIVE AMBASSADOR
Acts as an ambassador for the American Red Cross by greeting, educating, escorting and serving light refreshments while encouraging blood donors to continue giving the gift of life at local blood drives and donor centers. A variety of shifts are available: days, evenings and weekends. A pleasant attitude, a personal touch and a focus on excellent customer service are essential.
DRIVER
Transport lifesaving blood to local hospitals and from community blood drives to the Red Cross. Daytime, evening or weekend shifts are available. A volunteer in this position must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and the ability to lift approximately 45 pounds.
LANGUAGE TRANSLATOR
Use your special foreign language skills by assisting our blood donors through the donation process. Translate confidential health history information to our collection staff as you escort donors who are giving the gift of life at local blood drives. Volunteers with fluent language skills will find this opportunity a fun and rewarding way to help others. A variety of shifts are available: days, evenings and weekends.
MOBILE UNIT ASSISTANT
A volunteer in this position is responsible for stocking the warehouse area, preparing equipment, organizing supplies for mobile blood drives, and other duties as needed. Daytime shifts are available.
OFFICE ASSISTANT
Put your good organizing skills to use by assisting our various departments with filing, copying and sorting, data entry, reception and general office work. Daytime shifts are available. Attention to detail is required and general knowledge of office machines and computers will be helpful. Learn what it's like to work behind the scenes at the American Red Cross!
PHONE TEAM
Join a great team of volunteers who are responsible for contacting past donors to inform them when they are eligible to donate again. Volunteers in this position may also be responsible for contacting donors in special programs (such as Holiday Heroes), or calling scheduled donors to remind them of their appointments. A variety of shifts are available: days, evenings and weekends. Excellent customer service and telephone skills, a familiarity with computers and the ability to work a consistent schedule is preferred.

Health and Safety Instructor
Now more than ever, we understand the need to be prepared to respond when emergencies happen. As a volunteer instructor, you can teach people safety and emergency response skills by becoming a certified instructor in Adult CPR, Infant and Child CPR, First Aid, Babysitting, Water Safety, HIV/AIDS Education and more.
At least 20 hours per semester. Volunteers sign up in advance for the class of their choice. (Certification remains current if instructs at least one class each year.)
