What is the mission of the American Red Cross?

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Is the American Red Cross part of the U.S. Government?

The American Red Cross functions independently of government but works closely with governmental agencies during times of major crises. Although it is NOT a government agency, the Red Cross is mandated by Congress to aid members of the U.S. Armed Forces and to disaster victims home and abroad.

What are the Fundamental Principles of the American Red Cross?

The Fundamental Principles are Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary service, Unity and Universality.

Who funds the American Red Cross?

The American Red Cross is not a government agency and so depends on the generosity of the community it serves to provide the funds to support its services.

How does the Red Cross help me and others?

The American Red Cross is committed to saving lives and easing suffering. This diverse organization serves humanity and helps you by providing relief to victims of disaster, both locally and globally. The Red Cross is responsible for half the nation’s blood supply and blood products. The Red Cross gives health and safety training to the public and provides emergency social services to U.S. military members and their families. In the wake of an earthquake, tornado, fire, flood, hurricane or other disasters, the organization provides relief services to communities across the country.

What area does the Mountain Valley Chapter serve?

The American Red Cross Mountain Valley Chapter serves the residents of Utah, Juab, Millard, Carbon, Emery, Grand, Wayne, San Juan, Garfield, Iron, Beaver, Piute, Sevier and Sanpete, the nation and the world.

What services does the American Red Cross Mountain Valley Chapter provide?

The Mountain Valley Chapter has six lines of service that it provides to the community. Those lines of service are: Emergency Service, Armed Forces Emergency Service, Community Service, Health and Safety service, International Service and Blood Service.

When I donate, where does the money go?

If you make a donation to the American Red Cross Mountain Valley Chapter or at the Heroes Breakfast, your contribution will help to benefit the communities in our jurisdiction. Your gift stays here to help the chapter provide vital services to your neighbors, friends and family.

How much difference can my donation really make?

Whatever the amount, your money can and does make a difference to a temporarily displaced disaster victim. $.50 can buy a cup of cocoa, coffee or tea $5.00 can buy a meal or diapers and formula for a baby $50.00 can shelter a family for a night or provide a winter coat or buy one week’s groceries. $500.00 can provide one month’s rent for a family or purchase two beds.

Does the American Red Cross Mountain Valley Chapter receive funding from their National Headquarters?

The American Red Cross Mountain Valley Chapter does not receive financial support from our National Headquarters. It depends solely on the generosity of the foundations, corporations and individuals in the communities we serve.

What portion of my donation goes to administrative costs?

90% of donations go to programs and services, leaving only 10% to cover administrative and building costs.

Are there other agencies that provide the same or similar services?

No other organization provides Red Cross services. However, we work in partnership with many organizations.
