Club Officers 2008-2009 Officers President: Rosanne Snider President Rosanne Snider was born in Brockville, Ontario and raised in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. After being sent to France on a student work exchange program for 4 months where she worked in a hotel all summer in St. Malo on the Brittany coast, she came to Washington, DC for two weeks to visit her mother. Her mother was with the Canadian Foreign Service and had been appointed to the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC since 1969. She attended Smith Business School in Washington, DC and graduated June 1972, receiving her secretarial degree. She has been employed with the Canadian Embassy since July 1972 as the Senior Procurement Assistant to the Manager of Defence Procurement and the Senior Contracts Officer. President Rosanne was married in 1992 and later happily divorced in 2006. She had a catered “Freedom Party” to celebrate. President Rosanne has been dedicated to helping others, not only in the United States, but also Canada. Even prior to becoming a Lion, President Rosanne demonstrated that dedication by selling candy door-to-door for Youth Camps, walking miles each year for the homeless, a cancer cure in Canada and the Easter Seal Society in DC. Walking was not the only footwork she was good at; President Rosanne can cut a little rug too. She demonstrated this talent while dancing in three Dance Marathons for the Easter Seal Society where she alone raised over ten thousand dollars. She also worked the phone banks on several Pledge Drives for Easter Seal Society in Washington, DC. President Rosanne found a home with the Bailey’s Crossroads Lions Club and was inducted as a Lion on October 5, 2006. Since, she has served as Vice-president of Bailey’s Crossroads Lions Club in 2007. She also attended the US/Canada Lions Forum in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2007 and in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2008. Currently, she is serving as President of the Bailey’s Crossroads Lions Club, leading the pack to a brighter future.
Immediate Past President: Nancy Weisgerber Nancy was born and raised in Verona, New Jersey. She received her Bachelor's from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio in 1964 and her Masters from the University of Virginia in 1972. Her career in education began in 1964, teaching at Falls Church High School (a Fairfax County school.) After several years as a guidance counselor at Falls Church, Nancy served as an assistant principal at Falls Church, Annandale, and JEB Stuart High Schools. Nancy then served eight years as principal of JEB Stuart. retiring in 1997 after 33 years with Fairfax County. Nancy was invited to join the Bailey's Cross Roads Host Lions Club by her good friend, Shirley Wilson and was inducted in 1997. "The Bailey's Lions had helped so many students at JEB Stuart that I felt it was important to me to be able to give back to the community through a wonderful organization." Nancy has served as President for two terms and has also been a Zone Chairman. In addition Nancy volunteers with the Alexandria Red Cross and Travelers Aid. When traveling (which she tries to do often) Nancy enjoys visiting Lions Clubs in other countries and in the US.
First Vice President: Lion Beth James Lion Beth James was born in Warrenton and grew up in Bealeton, Virginia. Majoring in chemistry, she graduated from Radford College (now University) with a BS and returned to earn an MS in Science Education. Beth then embarked on a 31 year career in Fairfax County Public Schools, teaching at Hayfield Secondary School and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. In 1991, Beth earned her Doctorate in Educational Administration from VA Tech after which she served as assistant principal at Langley High School, Madison High School, and West Springfield. In 1997, Dr. James returned to Hayfield Secondary as Principal, Fairfax Hall. With the circle complete, she retired in December 1999. Beth has served in leadership roles in numerous organizations and is currently serving as secretary of her home owners association in NC (Oyster Pointe on Kitty Hawk Bay), on the Joint Directors of Oyster Point and Oyster Point II, on the Architectural Review Board of Spring Woods Home Owners Association and as coordinator for the Printing and Program Committee of the Catholic Charities 2003 Ball Committee. Active in Lionism for 6 years, Beth credits PID Roy, DG Shirley, and IPP Nancy for recruiting her into service; she believes projects such as RAM and the Screening Van Activities are what Lionism is all about. Beth loves to travel, spend time on the beach, and serve others through Lionism.
A native Virginian, Lion Shirley Wilson, was born in Martinsville and lived there for twenty-one years. She attended Madison College (Known today as James Madison University) and received her B.S. Degree in Education in 1958. She then moved to Northern Virginia to begin her teaching career. After teaching sixth grade for two years at Bailey's and Glen Forest Elementary Schools, she transferred to J.E.B. Stuart High School to teach Spanish and English. After several years, Shirley returned to the northern Virginia branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University to pursue and earn her masters degree in Counselor Education. After receiving her master’s degree, she became a counselor at J.E.B. Stuart and later became Director of Student Services (better known as Guidance Director to some). In 1987 she transferred to West Springfield High School as Director of Student Services and culminated her educational career there in 1991. Since retiring from education, Shirley has become a travel consultant. Upon Shirley's arrival in Fairfax County, she met Roy and they married on February 14, 1959. Roy became a Bailey's Cross Roads Lion in 1962, at which time Shirley played a vital role in the organization of theBailey's Ladies Auxiliary. As a charter member, she was very active and served in all of the officer positions. Lions Shirley and Roy were very instrumental in starting the first Leo Club in Virginia in 1970 – the J.E.B. Stuart Leo club. Shirley served as the club advisor for seventeen years and Roy served as the Lion liaison. Even though Shirley became an official Lion only four years ago (May 2, 1996), she has served Lionism unofficially since 1962. She and Lion Roy have been partners in all of his Lionistic endeavors - District Governor in1976-77, International Director 1994-96, International Board Appointee 1996-97, Vice Chairman of the 1998 USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum and General Chairman in 1999. After becoming an official member of the Bailey's Cross Roads Host Lions Club, Lion Shirley quickly filled the Vice-President's position vacated by another member. She served as President during the 1997-98 year, Membership Director and Newsletter Editor during 1998-99 and 1999-2000. . Lion Shirley served as Region I Chairman during 1998-99, Leader Dog Chairman in 1999-2000, District Bulletin Editor for District 24-A in 2000-2001, served as District 24-A Governor 2002-2003, and is currently serving as Bailey's Cross Roads Host Lions Club Secretary and Newsletter Editor as well as serving nationally as the IMPACT Team Leader for the United States.
Treasurer: Lion Alberto Toro
PID Lion Roy Wilson Lion Roy was born in Delark, Arkansas. However, he moved to Columbus, Georgia at an early age and grew up in a family of seven: his parents, four brothers, and one sister. After completing his college education, Lion Roy moved to Northern Virginia and has lived there forty-three years.Lion Roy had a government career of thirty-four years with the CIA before retiring in 1993. He and his wife, Lion Shirley, have been married forty-two years. They have two children and four grandchildren.
Lion Roy became a Bailey's Lion in July 1962 and now has forty-one years of perfect attendance. He has served in many club positions, including president, secretary for seventeen years, and newsletter editor. He served as District 24-A Governor in 1976-77 and received the 100% District Governor award. Having served on the district cabinet for twenty-seven years, Lion Roy has also served as president of Lions of Virginia Foundation, State Convention Chairman in 1984 and 1991, President of Virginia Association of Past District Governors, and in 1994 was elected to serve a two-year term as International Director. In 1996 International President Soliva appointed Lion Roy to serve an additional year on the International Board of Directors. In 1997-98 he served as Vice Chairman of the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum and served as General Chairman for the 1999 Forum, which was held in Birmingham, Alabama in September 1999.
Lion Roy is a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, has received six Presidential medals and the Ambassador of Good Will award, the highest honor bestowed on a Lion. He is a recipient of the Lions of Virginia Humanitarian award and was named "Lion of the Year" in Bailey's Cross Roads Host Lions Club for the 1997-98 Lion year. Lion Roy's love is his family and Lionism.
Membership Director: John Cutrone John Cutorne John was born in the city of New York in April 1933. He earned his B.A. degree from St. John's College in 1955. He was drafted and served in the Army from 1957 to 1959. Upon discharge, he resumed his education and earned his J.D. degree from St. John's Law School in 1961 and was admitted to the bar in the same year. While maintaining a law practice, he also served as Counsel to the Codes Committee of the New York State Assembly and as Counsel to the Draft Board. In 1968 he joined the Federal Service as the organization's labor law representative. He quickly moved into human relations management and later came to the headquarters in the Washington area in 1980. He retired in 1998 as Executive Director of Human Resources for the Defense Logistics Agency with over 36 years of service.
John was wed to Fran Pellegrino who passed away in 2001 after 42 years of marriage. He has one daughter, Dana, who also has a J.D. degree and lives in McLean. He has been a Lion since 2002.
