We have several projects that we have completed in our first year that will be on-going (Christmas party, Easter party, Birthday parties, fruit, AIDS children family vacations) but we have a new project that we are very excited about. In 2004, we will be sponsoring our first annual "Teens With AIDS Conference" We hope to send at least 15 families to Sinaia for 4 days of relaxation, worship, and networking with professionals who may bring a small sense of "Hope and Happiness" to families that have teens with AIDS. The projected cost is $3000

As a hand that offers a cool drink of water quenches the needs of a thirsty traveler, so will a helping hand bring hope and happiness to a young child.
BRINGING H2O: Hope & Happiness to Others

The Purpose of this charity is very simple.

It will provide assistance to children that are often over looked by much larger charitable organizations. Its mission will be to maximize the US dollars that are contributed to it. All overhead and operating expenses will be borne by the Board of Directors, or through giving specified for organizational costs. All other giving will go 100% to the designated project. This is in response to the founder's own frustrations at giving to agencies and finding out later that 50% or more of the giving went to overhead costs.

Why Start in Romania?
There were several resons why our first projects were started in Romania. First and foremost is because of a Romanian friend and associate, Roxana Girip. The founder and Roxana met when she attended a study program sponsored by the Center for International Understanding in 1987. Roxana spent Christmas, 2001 with the founders, Jerry and Judy Haynes. The founder was fascinated by listening to her stories of the needs in Romania. Her compassion and dedication convinced the founder that Romania was the place to start the charity. She directs a satellite Romanian office for The Center for International Understanding in Constanta. This NGO runs the various projects that our charity sponsors. This eliminates any concerns that the money we send will be spent improperly. This is very important for many charities find out too late that the money they sent never gets spent for the intended purposes. In is estimated that the work done by CONTRAST multiplies the giving sent to Romania by 3 to 4 times. We praise God for the hard, conscientious work Monica, Roxana, Livia, and the other volunteers give to our organization. A second reason is because the US dollar is so strong in Romania (a family of 3 can live on about US$35/month). For $500, a Christmas party was given to 100 children in 2002. In 2003, this amount was increased by $500 because 100 pairs of winter shoes will be give out. Perhaps the greatest reason though is that Romania is struggling through the early throes of a new democracy, only achieving their freedom in 1989. We feel very strongly that hope and happiness can only found in a democratic government. We intend to give the next generation of Romanians the hope and happiness to continue their democracy.
  What Projects have been completed?
We have located an orphanage (called Placement Centers) in Constanta, Romania that does not receive much assistance. We have started the following projects. CHRISTMAS PARTY: In 2002 we gave the children their first Christmas party. Over 100 children were treated to drinks, refreshments, snacks, gifts, hygiene kits, and entertainment. In 2003 we repeated the party, with the addition of purchasing 100 pairs of winter shoes for the children. Each child is also thrilled to receive a personal Christmas card from an American contributor. An Easter party was also given using money that was left over from the Christmas party. BIRTHDAY PARTY: Many of the children have never left the Placement Center. They have never seen the city they live in. Now, each month we treat the children observing a birthday that month to a party. They are taken on a tour of the city. The children that are 10 years and younger go to McDonalds for the first time and celebrate with a party. The children that are 11 and older attend a pizza party. Also each child receives a personal birthday card from an American contributor. FRESH FRUIT: Throughout the year additional fruit is purchased to supplement the children's diet. CHILDREN WITH AIDS: In the middle and later parts of the 80's, many Romanian children were given transfusions that were HIV infected, leading to a large occurrence of AIDS in children. Many of the children are given up because the parents cannot afford to keep them. Some families keep their children, at great hardship. We want to give these families a very special holiday. We send them to a beautiful mountain city called Sinaia. It lies in the beautiful Carpathian Mountains. A beautiful Palace dating back to 1884 that belonged to the royal family is now open as a museum. But most important, it is the location of one of the oldest, and most beloved of the Romananian Orthodox Churches and Monasteries. It offers a perfect time to pray and light candles. Follow the link to our 10-03 newsletter to see our first receipient, Cristina, as she enjoys this special vacation. HANDICAP SUPPORT GROUP:We provide assistance to a support group for children with handicaps. This group provides training, recreation, and social activities for these special children. OTHER MINOR PROJECTS: We are always looking for minor projects to participate in. We have sponsored campers to a church camp in Colombia and sent Christmas gifts through Samaritan's Purse.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
BRINGING H20: HOPE & HAPPINESS TO OTHERS has been incorporated in Virginia, and is designated as a 501(c)(3). We will be accountable to the highest standards for charitable giving organizations. We ask you to consider us. We ask for your prayers in God's guidanace and discernment in the operation of our charity. If you wish to give, no contribution is too small. A gift of $5 sends a child on a Birthday trip, $125 sends an AIDS child and her family to Sinaia for a 4 day vacation they would never be able to afford on their own. Of course, all contributions are tax deductible. Feel free to contact us for more information.
