W.I.S.E Up! workshop - March 12 It's time again to W.I.S.E Up! For Parents & Children
Date/Time: Saturday, March 12, 2011 1:30 – 3:30 P.M. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO HELP YOUR CHILD LEARN WAYS TO HANDLE QUESTIONS FROM OTHERS ABOUT THEIR ADOPTION Once again, Catholic Charities is pleased to offer the W.I.S.E. UP! workshop for adoptive families. This unique program developed by C.A.S.E (Center for Adoption Support and Education) provides a simple but powerful way for adopted children (and their families) to handle comments and personal questions about their adoption story. There are a number of parenting tasks which are unique to adoptive families. Perhaps the most difficult is supporting our children when they are called upon to explain adoption to the rest of the world. It is critical that children feel confident in themselves when confronted with this task. W.I.S.E UP! helps them join with other adopted children in learning ways to handle potentially uncomfortable situations in a safe and supportive environment. Parents, too, can share their concerns and learn how to best empower their children. This workshop will offer practical tools for adopted children between the ages of 7 and 11 (adopted both internationally and domestically) to help them make choices about how to respond to uncomfortable or personal questions about their adoptive status. The W.I.S.E UP! tools will be used in separate children's and parents' groups, with a sharing time at the end. The W.I.S.E UP Powerbook and Parent Guidebook will be available for purchase. Don't delay. This workshop fills up fast! Please contact Mary Ellen Bean (410-659-4031 or mbean@cc-md.org) for information and to register.
